Job Description

Job Summary:

Creates and modifies detailed drawings using CAD hardware and software from sketches, layouts or notes provided by engineering. Contributes design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Checks drawing plots versus the project input for correctness and conformance to standards. Works with engineers regarding model accuracy, design, drafting standards and ECN/ECR documentation. May work with system management including file maintenance, backup and storage by performing the following duties. At this level, tasks and assignments tend to be general but may involve complex and/or non-routine assignments and duties are performed under limited supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

may include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Designs major segments of complex subsystems.Creates 3-D models of parts and assemblies to develop a subsystem layout. Prepares production drawings based on these models.Applies knowledge of materials, finishes, welding, and other manufacturing processes to drawings.Participates in design reviews.Works closely with engineers and manufacturing personnel to insure that all aspects of the design are understood.Serves as liaison with operations during fabrication of parts to insure that all design issues are resolved and drawings are updated.Performs tolerance analysis on mating parts to insure proper fit. Applies knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing to designs.Technically directs work and checks drawings of lower level drafters. Provides expertise in CAD software for specific problem solving on a projectDaily availability to include evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals/deadlines.Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities but may provide technical leadership to lower-level Designers including carrying out lead responsibilities in accordance with applicable regulations and laws and the organization's policies and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to training employees, planning, assigning, directing work and resolving technically related work problems.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of:

SolidWorks Design software.MS Excel Spreadsheet software.MS Word; Word Processing software.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Certified SolidWorks Associate required (in place or obtained within 6 months).

Other Qualifications

Advanced skills in 3D solid Modeling/drafting using SolidWorks softwareAdvanced skills in 2D drafting using AutoCAD softwareAdvanced knowledge of conventional engineering drawing practices per ASME Y14 standards.Intermediate knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5Intermediate knowledge of machining operations and shop practicesPosition may require one or more of the following (Site/CBU Specific):

Other Essential Duties

Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.Other Skills and Abilities

Basic Knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/KaizenKnowledge of specific software (design, analysis, ERP...)Other Qualifications

US Citizenship with the ability to obtain a security clearance.
