Our staffers regularly appear on leading news and radio programs and our work is widely cited in the media.We are always on the lookout for talented people who want to support our mission to help us make the world more free, more fair, and more fun.About the RoleReason is looking for a Deputy Managing Editor to oversee our team of junior-level writers and interns. You will manage the editorial process for this group from pitches to publication, ensuring all content meets Reason’s standards and is delivered on time. This position also includes opportunities to write for Reason’s online and print publications.This role is ideal for someone with an editing or program/project management background. To be successful, you will need solid copy-editing skills, an in-depth understanding of politics and public policy from a libertarian worldview, and a passion for shaping young minds. Being based in Washington, D.C., is preferred, but not required. Those wishing to work virtually are welcome to apply.ResponsibilitiesTrain and mentor new junior-level writers and editorsAssign stories as appropriateManage content creation tasks, ensuring deadlines are met and content is delivered on timeManage the editorial calendar, ensuring that content is planned and scheduled effectivelyPerform copy-editing on quick-turnaround news items for Reason.comEdit and proofread content for accuracy, clarity, and adherence to style guidelinesResearch and fact-check as neededCollaborate with editorial staff to help refine longer-form pieces for Reason’s print editionQualificationsThree to five years of experience in journalism and/or editingManagement experience is preferredStrong leadership and decision-making skills, with the ability to guide and inspire young professionalsSolid grasp of journalistic practicesSharp organizational and writing skillsStrong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneouslyAbility to work collaboratively in a team environment and provide constructive feedbackAlignment with Reason’s missionHow to ApplyInterested candidates should submit the following materials in
