Product Design Engineer - Cold Chain

Product Design Engineer

who is focused on developing innovative solutions that surpass current products in the cold chain packaging space. The Product Design Engineer will report to the Project Engineering Manager and will work in the company's Temperature Solutions Center of Excellence in the greater Nashville area (La Vergne, TN).

The Product Design Engineer will work with laboratory personnel to design and qualify cold chain packaging solutions. The position will be responsible for designing thermal packaging solutions, performing qualification testing, analyzing test results, and creating detailed documentation for clients to use at their packaging facility or to analyze testing results. The position will also provide guidance to sales associates and clients for both their packaging solution and packaging process.

Product Design Engineer Key Duties and Responsibilities:Coordinating internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of projects.Assisting in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholder and ensuring scheduling and technical feasibility.Developing detailed project plans to monitor and track progress, while ensuring resource availability and allocation.Performing thermal laboratory testing using standard testing methods including the utilization of Thermal Testing Chambers, Heat Flow Meter, and Hot Disc.Performing physical laboratory testing including drop testing, compression testing, and vibration testing.Preparing samples and measuring equipment for testing based upon the testing schedule.Creating documents involved with laboratory testing including lab reports, testing protocols, and technical drawings.Performing calibration and preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment and measuring devices.Designing cold chain packaging solutions for clients using industry knowledge, Solidworks Flow Simulation software, and the guidance of members of the EFP Center of Excellence team.Working on projects in conjunction with other members of the EFP Center of Excellence including research and development, new products, and developing new testing methods.Hosting clients and other visitors to the Center of Excellence as well as giving tours of the laboratory area.Accompanying sales team personnel on sales calls to act as a cold chain industry expert.Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of evolving cold chain and general packaging trends, testing methods, software, and industry standards.Assisting in the training of new laboratory employees.Participating in 5S and Lean programs.Position requires occasional overnight business travel.

Qualifications:

Position requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Science, Packaging Engineering, Engineering, Technology, or a comparable discipline and 1 year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Laboratory experience and a working knowledge of thermal packaging dynamics and corrugate is preferred. Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) is required.

The position requires strong organization and problem solving skills. Must have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including listening skills. Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism in meetings with potential and current clients, internal team members, and other stakeholders. Must be self-motivated, effective at working independently or in teams, and committed to meeting deadlines.
