Cranbrook Art Museum is a leading venue for the presentation of twentieth- and twenty-first-century art, craft, architecture, and design. The Art Museum is located in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, a suburb of metropolitan Detroit, on the beautiful 319-acre historic landmark campus of the Cranbrook Educational Community. The Art Museum's sister institution is Cranbrook Academy of Art, a renowned graduate school of art, architecture, craft, and design. While the collections of the Art Museum span the 20 th

centuries, the permanent collection focus is on the achievements of faculty and students of the Academy of Art and of artists in the Detroit metropolitan area. The Art Museum frequently presents public art programs in the city of Detroit, working with a range of creative collaborators, diverse artists and curators, and various community partners. Each year the Art Museum also presents artworks created by the graduating class of Cranbrook Academy of Art. In 2011, the Art Museum completed a renovation of its original 1942 Art Museum and Art Library building designed by Eliel Saarinen and created a new Collections Wing, a purpose-built, state-of-the-art handling and storage facility for its collections, which allows for a curated and publicly accessible viewing of selections from nearly 7,500 works of art.

Cranbrook Art Museum is accepting applications for an

Associate Curator of Education . This position engages with students, educators, and families to create impactful museum experiences and fosters an environment of innovation and self-expression amongst Art Museum visitors. An ideal candidate is a resourceful art educator and museum interpreter with endless enthusiasm for working with young artists and families. The Associate Curator of Education will develop, schedule, and facilitate dynamic PreK-12 school visit instruction, family-focused programs, and summer Create Camps. They will manage the museum activities and necessary part-time educators for all scheduled school fieldtrips, artmaking workshops, and other education programs both on and off campus to create meaningful encounters for broad and diverse audiences of all ages.

This is a full-time position with a variable schedule, including weekend and evening assignments.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Oversee all school programs, and be responsible for development, planning, and execution. Audiences include Cranbrook Schools, Detroit and Pontiac Public Schools, and locations throughout Oakland, Macomb, Wayne, Monroe, and Washtenaw counties of Michigan.

Working closely with the Curator of Education, articulate program details based on established program and department vision. Help set learning goals and develop new programs for youth and family audiences. Develop didacts and tour language appropriate for younger audiences.

Coordinate the hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision of part-time and temporary staff to deliver school field trips, family programs, and summer camp working closely with the Curator of Education.

Research and develop programs and presentations as needed for school groups and other visitors, writing protocols and scripts, touring activities, evaluation materials, and/or program plans.

Assist visitors or school groups of all ages with learning techniques, including hands-on interactive projects, or other activities. Answering questions from visitors and school groups as needed about the museum and its programs.

Provide occasional tours to special groups and guests of the Art Museum of the exhibitions and collections as needed.

Be responsible for the daily care and maintenance of the Art Lab and the equipment used; re-order materials as needed. Maintain program storage area, supplies, teaching materials, equipment, and logs. Keep attendance for all programs.

Work as part of the education team to help with the development of materials for programs, demonstrations and presentations, for groups and museum visitor programs.

May fill in for education staff.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise the work of all part-time instructors and visiting artists for the Art Lab and Create Camp.

Schedule part-time instructors and conduct appropriate training.

Provide evaluation and appropriate feedback to improve teaching performance.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in studio art, art history, art education, preK-12 education or learning sciences. Master's degree in art history, art education, or fine art preferred.

Required minimum of five years of experience creating and facilitating lesson plans, managing teaching artists, developing museum interpretation experiences, and program evaluation.

Ability to effectively convey program content and an enthusiasm for the subject, engage with learners of all ages, and respond to questions in an articulate and age-appropriate manner.

Positive and impactful experience working with children and adults in a public setting.

Enthusiasm for the subject and an eagerness to share that enthusiasm with learners of all ages.

Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google office products. Ability to work with Adobe Creative Suite products (e.g., Illustrator, InDesign, AfterEffects, etc.) a plus.

Customer service experience and the ability to positively and effectively work with varied constituents including the public, school personnel, students, and volunteers.

Requires a valid Michigan driver's license with satisfactory driving record, and access to a vehicle for travel related to educational outreach programs.
