Job Summary:

The University of Colorado Department of Family Medicine (DFM) is looking for a Communications Specialist to join a growing team, based on the University of Colorado's preeminent academic medical campus. Recently ranked #7 Best Family Medicine Programs by U.S. News, the DFM seeks a creative, skilled, and energetic individual to join our communications team as a full-time Communications Specialist. Someone with a broad range of skills and a desire to put them to work to demonstrate the impact of our cutting-edge family medicine care, research, innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

Content Creation and Management:

Collaborate with subject matter experts to promote academic achievements, research initiatives, and institutional developments. Identify and write compelling news stories for sharing within the department, the university, and on national platforms (as appropriate).

Provide consistent messaging, tone, and branding for internal communication channels.

Event Management:

When provided with speaker names, as sourced by Program Manager and EA to the Chair, administratively coordinate calendar invitations, email invitations, rooms, catering, etc. for two sets of departmental cornerstone events/meetings.

Social Media Management:

Creates audience-centered, meaningful and engaging LinkedIn content

Monitors external responses across various social media platforms, responding when appropriate

Maintains a list of CU Anschutz-affiliated accounts, identifying and communicating with account managers as needed

Collaboration and Best Practices:

Steward the internal annual events process.

Build and maintain relationships with DFM faculty and staff.

Collaborate with Anschutz Medical Campus, DFM clinics and others as appropriate.

Identify and implement best practices regarding news and social media communication practices, strategies and tools.

Integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives into all communications endeavors.

Work Location:

Hybrid

- this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public or media relations, event planning, journalism or other related fields from an accredited college or university.

A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis. A master's degree in a directly related field from an accredited institution may be substituted for up to two (2) years of experience.

Two (2) years of professional experience working in communications, event planning, journalism, or marketing field(s).

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional training/professional development in the following areas: graphic design, video editing, photo editing, and newsletter writing.

Communications experience in a university, academic medical center, and/or large hospital system, or health care environment.

Experience with eComm or similar email marketing platform.

Experience with events and meetings management.

Project management experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of corporate communication principles, including messaging, branding, and company culture.

Knowledge of employee engagement techniques and practices to promote a positive work environment.

Excellent written communication skills, short-form creative writing skills, copy editing, and proofreading.

Adaptable self-starter who can work independently and collaboratively with team members.

Ability to identify and tell a story both with written word and through visuals.

Ability to lead internal communication initiatives and driving positive change.

Ability to handle sensitive information with the utmost confidentiality and discretion.

Strategic and creative skills and abilities.

Exceptional independent writing skills and experience in developing clear, concise, and key message-focused communications.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication style for different audiences.

Excellent knowledge of editing and grammar, including AP style.

Ability to translate abstract concepts into impactful written materials.

Ability to express consistently the voice of a brand/person.

Organized and dependable.

Ability to multitask, work quickly and effectively, and manage numerous deadlines with minimal supervision.

Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment.

Dedication to producing excellent work and excellent customer service.

Familiarity with content management systems and basic graphic design principles.

Proficient use of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite.

Project management skills with the ability to prioritize timelines and ensure on-time deliverables.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established as

$54,254 - $63,478 .

The above salary range ( or hiring range ) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
