Walt Disney Imagineering is the master planning, creative development, design, engineering, production, project management, and research and development arm of Disney’s Parks and Resorts business segment. Representing more than 150 disciplines, its talented teams of Imagineers are responsible for the creation - from concept initiation through installation and commissioning - of all Disney Resorts, theme parks and attractions, real estate developments, regional entertainment venues, and new media projects.Within the Show Systems studio is where we produce the magic. We help take our projects from concept design or mockups to full on production, assembly and installation. Our team is responsible for delivering our world class Audio-Animatronic figures through their full lifecycle from concept to installation, partnering with various disciplines to help deliver quality products and fulfill the creative intent (look, feel, & sound right)!About the Role & TeamThe Show Mechanical Designer will perform design activities focused on surface development, to help bring figures to life from the digital design. The candidate will support different phases of the engineering process which includes design from concept development through final design, production, test, installation, and commissioning for a variety of theme park attractions.They will have knowledge in areas such as: tooling design, digital sculpting, mesh modeling, organic and complex surface modeling, materials science, and 3D printing. Join this team if you’re committed to bringing Walt Disney’s stories and characters to life.This position will report to the Show Mechanical Engineering Manager.What You Will DoDesign shells, skins, and tooling for animated figures and props.Work with sculptural models and identify methods for mechanical attachment and improve final shape.Collaborate closely with other partners: such as costuming, figure finishing, electrical, show programming, animation, creative, and show set.Design components in Solidworks and prepare detailed drawings.Create models and drawings in Solidworks and release them in Electronic Data Management Systems (EDMS)Provide production support and install for animated figures and show action equipment.Support test and commissioning of animated figures and show action equipment.Proficiently build/communicate design concepts through 3D design software while showcasing innovative and creative design solutions.Maintain knowledge of best practices in manufacturing methods, and trends and developments in technology and equipment; apply this knowledge to maintain the organization's competitive edge.Identify and assess various problems and departures from established manufacturing standards and best practices; research and recommend solutions.Required Qualifications & SkillsMinimum 5 years of proven experience.Ability to perform basic engineering analysis and calculations.Possess a basic knowledge of mechanical components, manufacturing processes such as CNC, molding and tooling, and additive manufacturing.Superior 'clean sheet' design sensibilities.Familiarity with engineering design tools e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Navisworks.Familiarity with organic modeling design tools e.g. Zbrush, Rhino, Fusion360, Geomagic Design X, Solidworks.Curiosity to invent and aim to improve processes.Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.Preferred QualificationsPrior Themed Entertainment Experience.Strong leadership, technical and interpersonal skills.Self-starter with proven initiative - able to handle multiple tasks and priorities.EducationBachelors Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or Engineering Mechanics.Masters Degree or equivalent experience preferred, but not required.This position is located in Celebration, FL.
