The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) School of Dentistry seeks a dynamic and experienced

Director of Communications . As a key member of the Dean’s senior leadership team, the Director will lead, develop, and implement a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy to enhance and build on the school’s reputation. The Director will be a strategic thinker and leader, promoting the school’s news, initiatives, and achievements to diverse audiences, including patients, students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the general public. The Director must maintain an awareness of national, regional, and local healthcare issues, with an emphasis on oral healthcare, as well as higher education and legislative issues. Leads a team of communications professionals and collaborates with colleagues across UMB School of Dentistry (UMSOD) to develop and implement a comprehensive strategic communications, marketing, and engagement plan.Develops a comprehensive and adaptive strategy addressing social, legislative, environmental, and market factors.Plans, develops, and executes high-level messaging, high-profile projects, and nationally recognized events.Leads the development and implementation of the web strategy to enhance user experience and effectively communicate the School's mission, programs, services, and achievements.Provides leadership and executes public relations and marketing strategies to increase support for the School or University’s mission and programs.Develops and maintains relationships with external vendors, managing procurement and performance according to annual contracts.Manages the Office of Communications budget.Performs other related duties as assigned.Collaboration and Representation within UMB and the Community

Build and maintain partnership relationships with other campus offices or departments or with external organizations.Maintain and nurture relationships within the University, System, and/or state government.Represents the department through participation in campus meetings and special projects.Work with other UMSOD leadership on communications planning.Leadership of the Communications Team

Provides leadership and inclusive supervision to the Office of Communications team.Stays current on changing technologies and news trends.Education:

Bachelor’s degree.Preferred Education:

Advanced degree in communications, marketing, graphics design or related field.Experience:

Six (6) years of experience in marketing, public relations, communications, or media, public or client relations.Preferred Experience:

Experience in higher education strongly preferred.Supervisory Experience:

Two (2) years of experience at a management or leadership level.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Understanding of online marketing fundamentals.Ability to work with multiple stakeholders to develop effective web content.First-hand experience managing digital marketing.Ability to manage and prioritize communication requests.Experience with project management and overseeing large-scale projects.Hiring Range:
