Job Description

Summary:

University Communications and Marketing seeks to hire a student for the upcoming academic year to support its communications and media team. The communications and media team in UCM works daily with campus constituents and partners to publicize all aspects of the university through media outlets and the university's website.

Essential Functions

Writing, researching, analyzing news stories and topics, identifying and targeting appropriate media contacts, documenting news media placements, and working on special projects and general office duties.Team members consult with campus offices, schools, and departments on media relations, strategic communication strategies, and web communications to promote professors, programs, research, and events to various audiences and the news media.

Salary Range

$17.50 - $18.00/hour.

Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work

Part-Time.6 hours per week.

Required Education And Experience

High school diploma or equivalent.Majors/minors including but not limited to business, communications, marketing and journalism are helpful.Working knowledge of the news and media industries, public affairs and familiarity with higher education desired.Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.Ability to be flexible and comfortable in a fast-paced, newsroom-style office atmosphere.Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines while paying close attention to detail and work independently to complete designated assignments.

Preferred Education And Experience

Proficient computer skills including the Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Photoshop, and social media.Ability to use both Macs and PCs.Previous experience working in a PR agency, newsroom or other communications office preferred.Must be curious, pro-active and have a can-do attitude.
