About the Department:

Outreach, Communications, and Consulting (OCC) is a unit within the Office of Information Technology (OIT). Its primary function is to foster engagement and open communications between OIT and the NC State community it serves. OCC coordinates training, consulting, media production, information services, and Portfolio, Project, and Process Services to enhance the use of technologies on campus.

As OCC’s communications arm, this position directs OIT’s communications program. It is responsible for OIT’s communications strategy, change management communications, and creating internal and external communications for the seven OIT units, their employees, and supporting entities.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and facilitate strategic communications planning and marketing of OIT programs and services through in-house, campus, and external communication channels.

Oversee OIT’s communication, marketing, and branding efforts. Serve as the primary contact for internal and external communication.

Advise OIT leadership on sensitive public relations and emergencies. Maintain close working relationships with University Communications and Marketing.

Supervise one full-time staff member and assign projects, holding final accountability for all produced work.

Develop and implement marketing and communication strategies for end-users related to initiatives, projects, and service updates and changes.

Write effective IT-related communications for targeted audiences, including the general public, campus community, faculty, staff, and specific IT populations.

Produce OIT’s monthly e-newsletter and the OIT annual report.

Oversee all communication channels, including print, web, public service announcements, video, graphics, presentations, surveys, billboards, and social media.

Develop and implement strategic communication plans to support organizational change initiatives.

Work with project teams to develop change management plans that include communication, training, and support activities.

Tailor messages to various audiences to ensure clarity and relevance.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education and Experience:

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree and three years of experience in the area of assignment including one year in a lead worker or supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to collaborate with directors, managers, and individual contributors to develop strategies that effectively communicate initiatives, projects, service updates, and changes that affect the campus community.

Proven ability to translate technical ideas and concepts into effective communications that can be understood by a broad population.

Strong understanding of various forms of technical, marketing, and journalistic writing.

Excellent project management skills with the ability to lead communication initiatives and manage competing priorities.

Experience with digital accessibility standards and requirements.

Ability to work in and lead team environments across a diverse set of projects with multiple stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in managing the social media presence of an organization.

Experience in graphic design for print, social, and web.

Experience with WordPress or similar web content management systems.

Experience with email marketing platforms.

Experience in an IT environment in a higher education setting.

Required License(s) or Certification(s):

Valid NC Driver's License required.
