Join our team and help us keep communities connected.Your OpportunityStantec has an immediate need for a talented entry-level, team-focused Bridge Engineer. This position is for an individual who is looking to challenge themselves professionally on a variety of transportation projects. We are looking for a Bridge Designer who excels in working in a team environment and has a passion for the work that they do. The successful candidate will join a growing team of transportation professionals and contribute to the design component of roadway and bridge projects throughout DC, Maryland, and Virginia.Your Key ResponsibilitiesMost of the work will include bridge projects for departments of transportation and municipalities in the DMV area.Key duties include assisting with preparation of plans, CAD drafting, and construction cost estimates, specifications, and design calculations for DOT and Municipal clients.Tasks would include but not be limited to performing site visits, bridge inspection, bridge analysis, design and geometry calculations, and developing drawings.Position also entails preparing engineering reports and technical studies, and assisting on other projects, as needed, including participation in roadway and site civil design activities.Performs inspection of simple and complex bridges along with preparing the inspection reports.QualificationsYour Capabilities and CredentialsKnowledge and application of bridge design codes and standards.Knowledge of bridge systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.Basic ability in performing structural design & analysis.Ability to check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.Thorough understanding of structural engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.Ability to travel within the Maryland, Virginia, and District of Columbia area.Ability to climb ladders and work at heights using various bridge inspection access equipment.Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and strong organizational skills.Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a structural emphasis. Master’s degree is preferred.Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.0-4 years of professional experience in the design of bridge structures.Experience with MicroStation or AutoCAD.Valid driver's license.Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work.
