Lawrence University of Wisconsin, a selective undergraduate liberal arts college and conservatory of music, seeks a dynamic leader to serve as Director of the Seeley G. Mudd Library. Reporting to the Provost and Dean of the Faculty, the Director of the Mudd Library holds an untenured faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, commensurate with experience. This is a full-time, exempt position. The Director oversees 15 library faculty and staff, an annual budget and endowed funds of approximately $1 million, and a building that also houses the University Archives, a makerspace, the Center for Academic Success, the Office of Accessibility Services, and Technology Services.The ideal candidate will provide strong leadership and strategic vision for the Mudd Library to implement an innovative and effective program of services that meet the evolving needs of our diverse community of students, instructors, and scholars. The Director will be deeply knowledgeable about the many functions of academic libraries in higher education and changes in educational technologies and resources. The ability to collaborate, both within the library and across campus, foster a culture of inclusivity and excellence, and advance Lawrence University’s educational mission and contribute to its strategic plan are also key qualities.Responsibilities

Position and promote the Mudd Library as a space for inclusive academic excellence, community building, creativity, and student success.Evaluate and advance library programs, services, and resources to support the teaching, learning, enrichment, and research experiences of our students, faculty, and staff.Recommend and implement new initiatives, organizational structures and practices, and internal and external collaborations where needed to align with and advance Lawrence’s mission and strategic plan.Lead, guide, and support the development of the library faculty and staff to maintain a high degree of professional engagement and expertise, and recruit and retain new faculty and staff as needed.Provide strategic leadership in the effective use and maintenance of the physical facility and resources, operating budget and endowed funds, and all related operational and administrative matters.Serve on the Curriculum Committee of the faculty.Serve as a member of the leadership team of the Academic Affairs division.Perform the above responsibilities with a commitment to forwarding Lawrence’s core values of inclusion, diversity, equity, and antiracism.Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a Master’s degree in Library Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association or comparable degree and significant experience as an academic librarian.The successful candidate will also possess the following qualities:A deep understanding of and strong commitment to undergraduate education and scholarly work in a variety of forms.Exceptional leadership skills and demonstrated success in contributing to academic library planning, operations, and administration, including budgets, program development, and staff recruitment and management.A demonstrated commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, belonging, and antiracism in library policies, programs, resources, and beyond.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with diverse campus constituencies within the library and across campus.Ability to engage in decision making at the institutional level to advance the strategic plan and educational mission.Capacity to identify opportunities and contribute to fundraising strategies and grant writing.Lawrence is committed to enhancing the diversity of its faculty and staff and the diversity of viewpoints and approaches that its faculty represents.
