Job Description and DutiesThis position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by coordinating and providing training and technical expertise related to Center for Healthy Communities communications activities that promote healthy and resilient communities. The Health Program Specialist (HPS) I is responsible for ensuring a Center-wide communications plan is developed, implemented, and maintained for purposeful internal and external communication. The HPS I will ensure that the Center’s prevention and public awareness activities adhere to Departmental policies and receive the proper approvals prior to implementation. The HPS I will lead efforts in coordinating and facilitating virtual and in-person trainings, meetings, conferences, and activities with staff, state agencies, Local Health Jurisdictions (LHJs), Associations, and advisory groups. This position works in collaboration with members of the Center’s Program Alignment, Communications, and Equity (PACE) Section. The position is subject to 5% In State Travel with possible overnight stay.The incumbent works under the direction of the PACE Section Chief (Health Program Manager II).Minimum Requirements

Statement of Qualifications – Health Program Specialist (HPS) IThe Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) will be used to pre-screen applicants for the HPS I position within the Center for Healthy Communities. The SOQ is a narrative discussion of the candidate's experience. The SOQ must be no more than two pages in length, using 11- or 12-point Arial font, single spaced.Describe how your knowledge, skills, education, and experience makes you the best candidate for the job.Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:Experience working in an Executive Level fast-paced office with experience in handling multiple competing priorities and shifting expectations.Background or degree in Communications and/or Public Health/Health Education.Excellent written and oral communication, as well as interpersonal skills.Experience in a team-oriented environment, with small and large teams.Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to pay attention to details and understand how details play an integral role in the work required.Strong analytical skills which include detailed problem resolution skills and ability to make sound recommendations as a result of these actions. Approaches a problem using a logical, systematic, and sequential approach.Knowledgeable of ADA Compliance and Guidance.Understanding of racial and health equity and how to apply equity frameworks in work.Self-motivated and strong work ethic with outstanding attendance record.
