With a focus on physician-to-physician linkage for patient transfers and resource allocation of the Cape Fear Valley air and ground ambulances, Communication Specialists meet the dynamic needs of the system to assure patients receive the care they need. EMS dispatch experience, medical terminology, and aviation terminology preferred. Current and valid North Carolina EMT certification or equivalent preferred (i.e., Nursing Assistant, Military Medic, or Certified Medical Assistant). Completion of NIMS 100, 200, 700 within 90 days of hire. Potential and successful candidates for this role have previous experience in the following areas: EMS, EMS dispatch, medical terminology, and the air medical industry. A working knowledge of emergency medical procedures, equipment, and supplies employed in pre-hospital care, and of communications equipment used. Ability to work calmly under extremely stressful conditions and follow established procedures and protocols. Strong understanding of how to effectively move patients throughout the health system with knowledge of capacity and bed availability. Working knowledge of EPIC, Advance Dispatch, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Outlook strongly preferred. Must be able to type at a minimum of 40 words per minute. Must be able to hear and speak clearly. Must have visual acuity correctable in both eyes of 20/40. Manual dexterity for keyboard work.
