This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position. The Marketing Manager plays a central role in promoting OSU Press, its authors, and its scholarly and trade publishing program. The Marketing Manager works with internal and external partners and Press staff to generate awareness of and enthusiasm for the Press’s publications; amplifies the Press’s public profile and impact; develops and executes concrete marketing and publicity plans; reviews sales results and other financial information to evaluate the Press’s performance, and builds relationships with authors, media, and the book community.Key Responsibilities

40% – Marketing Management

Develop, execute, and evaluate marketing plans for each OSU Press title as well as the Press’s overall marketing strategy.Serve as primary writer and content editor for all marketing and sales materials, including OSU Press website and blog, seasonal catalogs, advertisements, and other print materials.Assess the potential market for books under consideration and help determine prices and print runs for new books and reprints.Track and evaluate marketing and promotion activities and report on marketing accomplishments.Engage in marketing research and development strategies for forthcoming books.Consult with Press authors about issues and events related to the promotion, marketing, and sales of Press books.Work with authors and designers to coordinate book covers and review and proof cover layouts.25% – Publicity

Develop and execute review and publicity strategies for local and national audiences; maintain relationships with reviewers and media contacts.Create promotions for the Press that highlight and further our mission, particularly our Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion goals.Organize and publicize events, including readings, signings, interviews, professional meetings, and exhibitions. Represent press at public events.Oversee Press social media activities.Prepare sales materials for Press distributors and sales representatives and present to rep groups semi-annually.15% – Sales

Establish and maintain relationships with professionals representing retail stores; libraries and library jobbers; regional, national, and specialty wholesalers; ebook vendors; and sales representatives at Chicago Distribution Center, University of British Columbia Press, and Imprint Group West.Work with OSU Press staff to confirm and distribute title information and other metadata to industry databases, trade journals, and customers.Work with OSU Press Director to develop sales forecasts.10% – Unit Planning and Administration

Participate in decision-making about acquisitions, strategic planning, and general Press operational matters related to personnel, communication and outreach, and operations.Support goals for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion by participating in training opportunities; actively seeking diverse applicants to open staff and student positions; advocating for the publication of books by underrepresented voices, and expanding and diversifying our network of partners, media, and freelance talent.Other duties as assigned.5% – Student Supervision

Participate in Press/Library/University and professional association committees as appropriateWhat You Will Need

Bachelor’s degree (in communications, marketing, business, humanities, or other relevant field) and one year experience in book marketing, publicity, or sales; OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience in book marketing, publicity, or sales.Demonstrated ability to promote and publicize books, individually and/or as part of a publishing program.Excellent communication, interpersonal, decision-making, and organizational skills.Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.Demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.Familiarity with standard office software and programs, including Excel, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite; content management programs; and database or title management systems.Familiarity with current social media trends and practices.What We Would Like You to Have

Five years’ experience in book marketing, publicity, or sales, ideally at a regional or university pressExperience forecasting sales and expenses and monitoring title P&Ls.Experience running branded social media accounts and/or conducting social media publicity campaignsEstablished relationships with media contacts and booksellers in the Pacific NorthwestKnowledge of history, cultures, politics, and other issues of importance in Oregon and the Pacific NorthwestWorking Conditions / Work Schedule

Occasional evening/weekend work at events and conferencesOccasional travel to eventsOn-site or hybrid remote preferred; fully remote work possible depending on candidate
