Provides support by organizing specific functions related to special events and public relations which may include assisting with the preparation and distribution of promotional materials and making arrangements for facilities, food and volunteers for special events. Coordinates and assists with various marketing activities which may include advertising, direct mailing, printing and attending events.This is an in-person position at the University of Utah’s Graduate Center at St. George: 1071 East 100 South, Suite A100, St. George, Utah. May require occasional travel to the University of Utah’s main campus in Salt Lake City, Utah.The incumbent works 19 hours per week. FTE may increase based on business need. This position requires flexible, non-standard working hours, as schedule will vary by academic semester.Responsibilities

Coordinates and implements marketing communication projects that include public relations, advertising, brand awareness and special events management.Identifies target market and assists in purchasing advertising space for magazines, newspaper and radio.Assists and follows through with preparation and distribution of promotional materials, letters, newsletters, brochures, social media, signage, etc.Proofreads all communications and monitors media.Manages the research and development of content for publication.Follows-through with details for special events and activities both on and off-site.Maintains files, records, databases and accounting reports for events and participants.Assists supervisor in evaluating program effectiveness through research of the market traffic and usage data and make adjustments for future events.Assists in marketing surveys, research projects and focus groups from initial questionnaires to compiling information.Responsible for digitization, archiving, and maintaining digital media databases.Serves as media editor, which includes editing, newsgathering, writing, photography, desktop publishing, layout and design. Must be familiar with editing software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and Canvas.Takes photographs on and off location and maintains a photo library.Assists in the selecting of promotional items including the design, printing, mailing, and delivery of promotional materials.Establish and maintain relationships with new and existing students, Alumni, local businesses, and schools by attending events, networking and prospecting.Develops and adheres to project timelines.Availability to work nights and weekends as needed for events.Be able to substitute and cross train for other job duties as needed.Minimum Qualifications

Four years public relations experience which includes two years marketing, fundraising or sales activities, or equivalency required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Experience writing news releases, producing newsletters and organizing special events and fund-raising activities preferred. Depending upon department of assignment, preference may be given for a background in purchasing, television production, radio, athletics, library or museum.Preferences

Knowledge about Southern Utah colleges, public schools, community and businesses is a plus.Special Instructions Summary
