The role holder serves as a content specialist to the Orthopaedic and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Departments within the University of Utah Health system in support of our clinical, research, teaching and service missions. Working closely with all stakeholders across the enterprise including Faculty, researchers, healthcare leaders and patients the role holder will develop a deep understanding of the communication needs of the organization working to translate these insights into new content, marketing and promotional material. As an experienced content, media and marketing specialist, the successful role holder will be a self-starter with excellent communication skills. The Marketing and Content Specialist is comfortable working with minimal supervision, will develop strong relationships across our diverse teams and will serve as the trusted content development partner for the service lines. The position reports to the Associate Director of the University of Utah Health Marketing & Communications Team.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions and DutiesOversees a portfolio of web and media resources, managing all aspects of text, imagery, broken links, page formatting and videos to ensure a market-leading experience for end users.Monitors competitor websites, communications and marketing activities as part of providing insights that create a competitive advantage.Evaluates marketing and communication needs, makes recommendations regarding planning and implements changes to content in alignment with agreed-upon priorities.Conducts interviews with stakeholders and patients as part of the process of developing new promotional and informational content.Works with hiring and leadership teams to support effective communication and marketing efforts for new faculty hires.Coordinates with system marketing teams to ensure consistency and compliance with brand, style, tone and voice guidelines.Optimizes webpages for SEO in support of marketing strategy and priorities. Functions include: conducting keyword research, identifying targeted keyword phrases, crafting h1, h2, and h3 subtitles, writing meta descriptions, adding alt tags, imaging and video descriptions.Undertakes trainings to maintain and develop skills with respect to new technology and approaches to content management.Gathers and analyzes statistical website data. Assists in preparing reports and graphic illustrations of findings for use in presentations.Maintains an inventory of all website and media, including archived content.Supports provider profile pages:Monitors specialty additions.Monitors location and contact information.Writes and reviews bio information w/ stakeholders.Monitors news story and video additions to provider profiles.Additional duties commensurate with the role.

Skills and Experience

Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills. Human relation skills and computer literacy. Editing experience and familiarity with a brand style guide. Ability to write with a high degree of proficiency. Able to work autonomously and to develop new stories/content. Website management, maintenance and structuring. Attention to detail. Understanding of SEO techniques.Helpful, but not required:Web writing skills.Editing skills.Adobe Suite knowledge.Html basic understanding.SEO knowledge.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree English, Journalism, Communications, or related field plus 3 years of related experience, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills; familiarity with a variety of computer software; project management and strong interpersonal skills; ability to work both individually and in a team setting.Some areas may require additional experience with specific computer systems and may require skills in interviewing, ad copy writing, editing, photography, web writing, graphic design, audio & video production, and oral presentation.Master’s degree in a related field may be preferred.Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
