Sheriff's Detective/Corporal

who enforce the law, protect the rights of citizens and conduct complex criminal and specialized investigations requiring a high level of expertise. This recruitment will result in a new list of eligible candidates to replace the existing list.

Experience:

Applicants must currently be employed by San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy Sheriff and must meet

one

of the options below, as of the filing deadline:Option A:

Five (5) years as a San Bernardino County Deputy Sheriff.Option B:

Four (4) years as a San Bernardino County Deputy Sheriff, which includes one (1) year as a patrol officer.Option C:

Three (3) years as a San Bernardino County Deputy Sheriff, which includes two (2) years as a patrol officer.Option D:

Three (3) years as a San Bernardino County Deputy Sheriff, which includes one (1) year as a patrol officer;

AND

three (3) years of patrol experience gained through working as a POST certified peace officer in a patrol function for another CA POST certified law enforcement agency.Certificates:

Indicate any certificates you possess, including certificates for Aviation, Boating Enforcement, and for Bomb/Arson; include certificate number and expiration dates. Those who list specialized certificates on the supplemental questionnaire may be considered for specific positions.Location:

Indicate if you are willing to accept a promotion to the Colorado River or Trona areas on the Supplemental Questionnaire. Trona is a resident-post position, and requires a minimum 2-year commitment. Only those who indicate a willingness to work in the Trona area will be considered for a vacancy in the Trona area.Exam schedule:

Beginning the week of

November 4, 2024 .

Candidate Self-Scheduling:

Candidates will be able to select their test date and time approximately three weeks prior to the examination.

Confirmation:

Confirmation of date/time/location of the examination will be emailed approximately one to two weeks before the examination begins.The Written Test

(weighted 30%) will cover the following topics:

Laws, Policies, ProceduresInvestigative and Interview TechniquesReasoning/Decision Making

A Work Simulation Exercise

(weighted 25%) will also be administered, and will be evaluated only for those candidates who are successful on the written test.

The Promotional Evaluation:

There will also be a competitive evaluation of promotability (weighted 45%), based on a departmental review of the applicants' knowledge, skills, and abilities. Only those candidates who are successful on both the written test and the work simulation exercise will have this evaluation scored. Candidate's final grade will be based on a combination of passing scores from the written test, the work simulation exercise, and the evaluation.

Final grades will be based on weighted scores achieved in the Written Test, Writing Exercise/Work Simulation, and the Promotional Evaluation.
