The Communications Department is responsible for promoting the district’s work and initiatives, strategic communication within and outside the district, and managing the district’s brand. The Director of Communications reports to the Superintendent or their designee and will oversee media relations, online communication, marketing and will collaborate with every department to drive employee and constituent relations. The Director of Communications will ensure the district’s message is consistent and engaging. The Director of Communications will manage the district's public relations and media interactions and oversee the content and management of the district's social media outlets and website. As the Communications Director, you will play a crucial role in coordinating all external activities, with a specific focus on collateral materials such as videos and podcasts. You will serve as the liaison for the district, overseeing event coordination and acting as the primary point of contact for guests engaging with the Bridgeport Public Schools for communication-related matters.

RESPONSIBILITIESDevelop a clear and cohesive communication plan/strategy.Collaborate with leadership team on issues related to communications and public affairs.Oversee the district's social media strategy, including content creation, posting schedules, and engagement analytics for platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and any additional relevant social media outlets.Manage the district's website, ensuring content is up-to-date, accurate, and aligns with the district's communication goals.Secure positive, accurate and robust national and regional media coverage that increases awareness, understanding and support of Bridgeport Public Schools.Monitor public perception of the district and develop strategies to address any areas of concern.Serve as a key external voice on behalf of the organization.Oversee the editorial process of all district communications.Manage crisis situations through media outlets.Develop, launch, and maintain BPS branding campaign portraying the district vision.Generate informational content for stakeholders through publications i.e., newsletters, press releases, email announcements, videos, and special projects.Collaborate with school administrators and district office leaders highlighting events, activities, and recognitions at school sites.Promote and attend multiple events across the district.Build coalitions and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.Perform other duties which may be assigned by Superintendent.Work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, to cover district events and manage any communication crises that may arise.Coordinate engagements for internal and external vendors.Work with the Executive Director of Internal and External Partnerships.Responsible for all branding of materials.QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.Proven experience in a communications role, preferably within an educational or public sector environment.Proficiency in managing social media platforms and website content management systems.Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects simultaneously.Strong organizational and leadership skills.Five years of successful experience working directly with state or local government and/or large philanthropic organizations.Extensive experience managing and developing organizational communications strategy.Excellent verbal/written communication skills.Excellent technical skills.Established networks with all local, regional, and national media outlets.This job description is not, nor is it intended to be, a complete statement of all duties, functions, responsibilities, qualifications, physical, and cognitive, which comprise this position.
