Reporting to the Executive Director and partnering with the board and staff, this role is responsible for the fulfillment of the orchestra’s artistic potential and its image in the community. As the orchestra’s artistic leader, the incumbent is responsible for diverse music programming that helps to build audience with season and individual ticket sales.Responsibilities

OrchestraDevelop and propose visionary, diverse, and enticing concert programs to attract and build a patron base, increasing season and individual ticket sales.Exhibit excellence in musicianship and conducting skills.Provide pre-concert conductor’s notes and videos.Oversee selection criteria for and auditioning of orchestra members.Engage with musicians with confidence, discipline, respect, and support.Inspire and engage with the audience.Work with the WSO Librarian to ensure music availability in a timely manner.Prepare and conduct rehearsals as a music education activity, providing the musicians with training in all aspects of musical knowledge and orchestral techniques, as well as preparation for performances.Engagement with the Board of DirectorsServe as an ex-officio member of the Board.Participate in meetings of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee monthly.Serve as a resource to the Executive Director and Marketing Committee as they develop an annual marketing plan.EducationNurture relationships with local music educators.Be involved with local students and young musicians. Support WSO Youth programs, collaborate with youth orchestra conductors, and encourage involvement with young musicians.Assist with the annual Richard R. Deas Young Artist Competition.Engagement with the CommunityAssist with fundraising activities, including meeting with major donors and attending major fundraising events, such as the annual A Feast of Music gala.Connect with VIPs and donors at pre- and post-concert receptions.Work collaboratively with other local music organizations.Minimum Requirements

Minimum of a master’s degree, with a doctorate preferred, in Orchestral Conducting or commensurate experience as demonstrated in the submitted application materials.Experience conducting and delivering compelling performances with professional and volunteer orchestras.Mastery of at least one instrument, ability to coach all sections to realize desired level of play and musical interpretation.Experience performing as a member of an orchestra. Soloist experience a plus.If applicable, proof of existing legal right to work in the United States is required.
