At Sun Country, you'll be part of a growing airline and an enthusiastic team focused on connecting our community with their favorite people and places.SUMMARYThe Communications Specialist is responsible for executing Sun Country Airlines' communications and public relations strategy, including gathering and writing content for consumers, news media, and employees. This role is part of the Brand and Communications team within the Marketing Department whose purpose is to create, promote, enhance, and protect the "voice of the airline." The Communications Specialist is detailed, adaptable, and will be a generalist in coordinating projects, events, and creating content for multiple audiences and channels.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.External communications:

Coordinates PR opportunities and marketing assets with airport authorities and convention and visitor bureaus for the addition of new destinations, including inaugural flight events and announcements of new service.Identifies, develops, and drafts content for consumers in collaboration with the Brand team, including the Sun Country communications site, "Stories," to drive SEO and bookings at Suncountry.com.Drafts press releases and key messages on new Sun Country destinations and seasonal schedules.Understands the emergency communication response plan and participates in regular training and drills.Assists in gathering information for and creating executive briefings and talking points.Maintains list of local and national media outlets.Monitors media and social coverage.

Internal communications:

Edits, formats, and disseminates the weekly employee newsletter, department newsletters and company-wide announcements.Ensures digital monitors throughout Sun Country are updated with information to reach desk-less employees.Takes the initiative to partner with colleagues throughout the airline to identify and develop potential story opportunities.Assists with the coordination and staffing of employee events (e.g., town halls), media and community partnership events (e.g., Make-A-Wish) and other team initiatives as needed.In partnership with IT, maintains updates to the Sun Country intranet site.Participates on the employee engagement team.Maintains broad knowledge of company operation, products, performance, and initiatives.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITYNoneQUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTSBachelor's degree in Strategic Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field2+ years of experience in corporate communications, media relations, and/or consumer-facing communications, and/or public relationsExcellent AP style writing skills and superior verbal communication skillsKnowledge of current events and media landscapeHighly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects from start to finish with strong attention to detailExperience working in a fast-paced, highly dynamic environment and comfortable with some ambiguityUser of the full Microsoft suite of products, data asset management systems, and email programsCustomer-focused and enthusiastic about travelReadiness to participate in communication response in the event of an emergency and flexibility to work outside of normal business hours as needed to support the 24/7 operation of the airlinePREFERRED SKILLSWriting for public relations and/or news writingSharePoint experience for maintaining our intranet siteEvent planning, including developing checklists, timelines, and outreach to vendorsWORK ENVIRONMENTThis job operates in a professional office environment.
