About the JobThe College of Liberal Arts is the largest college in the University of Minnesota system with 31 academic departments, 10 research centers, and 7 administrative units including 500 faculty, 800 staff, and 14,000 undergraduate and 1,600 graduate students.

As a strategic member of the College of Liberal Arts' Office of Institutional Advancement, the Multimedia Designer & Creative Manager produces and manages resources to elevate the College of Liberal Arts' visual brand. The successful candidate is responsible for helping to effectively tell the CLA story and shape the CLA brand and persona through exceptional photography and design. This work helps the college fulfill its strategic plan and engage a variety of audiences, including future and current students, alumni, donors, faculty, and staff.

The Multimedia Designer & Creative Manager will oversee a team of talented student design and photography interns, manage multiple creative projects, and collaborate across CLA's administrative units and academic departments to ensure consistent and effective visual messaging and branding across all platforms. This role is pivotal in aligning CLA's visual communications with the college's strategic goals and adhering to University standards.

Work Expectation:

We offer a flexible, hybrid work environment with a set schedule of in-person team meetings. This position must attend and photograph occasional events outside of normal working hours.

Salary Range, DOQ:

$50,000 - $65,000

Key Responsibilities

Graphic Design, Photography, and Multimedia Production 35%

Create compelling and accessible visual content for social media, websites, presentations, and other digital and print materials.

Finalize design files and arrange production of printed materials. Translate technical specifications and provide expertise on printing strategies for internal and external vendor projects.

Provide photography for key collegiate events and initiatives, faculty portraits, and story subjects. Provide art direction for interns or freelance photographers.

Do occasional video editing for social media and events.

Brand Management 25%

Uphold University branding standards, adapting them to meet the specific needs of CLA. Ensure consistent and effective visual branding across all CLA platforms.

Maintain CLA brand guide and documentation of design standards and processes.

Manage a library of multimedia resources, including graphics, photos, videos, and templates in Photoshelter and Google Drive.

Ensure design files meet vendor specifications and CLA brand standards.

Conduct regular audits and consult with partners across the college to ensure consistency with college and University visual identity standards and adherence to accessibility guidelines.

Team Leadership and Development 15%

Recruit, train, and mentor a team of student design and photography interns.

Provide creative direction, branding guidance, accessibility training, and constructive feedback to ensure high standards of visual content.

Coordinate and manage interns' workloads, ensuring timely and efficient project completion.

Project Management 25%

Manage concurrent creative projects from concept through completion, ensuring adherence to deadlines and budget constraints.

Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather project requirements, provide updates, and obtain approvals.

Manage photoshoot scheduling, logistics, photo releases, processing, editing, file management, delivery, and curating of images.

Develop and adhere to workflows established in Asana to maximize efficiency.

QualificationsRequired Qualifications

BA/BS degree plus at least two years of experience or a combination of related work and education to equal six years.

High level knowledge in graphic design software (e.g. Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Lightroom, Photoshop, Canva, etc.)

Demonstrated ability to design creatively within a visual identity system and manage brand standards.

Knowledge of photography equipment and software (Adobe Lightroom), post-production editing skills, and experience photographing people.

Demonstrated understanding of responsive design and digital accessibility.

Ability to proactively self-manage time and tasks and maintain high, sustained levels of productivity under tight deadlines. Ability to adapt to changing situations, priorities, and deadlines.

Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing or mentoring a team, preferably in an academic or creative setting.

Experience with Drupal and Salesforce Marketing Cloud.

Experience with social media platforms and creating graphics for social media.

Experience with Asana or other project management software.

Experience selecting and managing vendors, including printers, addressing and mailing.

Experience photographing events.

Knowledge of video editing software (e.g. Premiere Pro).
