Description:The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at North Carolina A&T State University seeks an energetic and innovative chairperson for the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, who possesses a distinguished record of scholarly and professional accomplishments, appreciates the integration of learning, discovery and engagement, and has significant administrative experience. The Chair responsibilities are conducted over a 12-month appointment period. Candidates are expected to exhibit a strong commitment to scholarship and excellence in the arena of journalism and mass communication, and to exhibit an open and collegial style of communication. Among the responsibilities of the Chair are the administration of instructional programs, budgetary management, faculty development, instruction, academic advising, departmental assessment, departmental accreditation oversight, etc. Service to the College, University and community are expected. As the academic leader and chief administrative officer of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, the Chair reports directly to the Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.Primary Function of Organizational Unit:The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication is housed within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. It offers a Bachelor of Science degree with concentrations in multimedia journalism, mass media production, and public relations, which are accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC). The Department has 550 majors and intends to propose a graduate degree program in the near future. Detailed information about the Department is available online

here .Requirements:Ph.D. in journalism or mass communication with an established record of research and publication in the discipline.

Preferred:Ph.D. in journalism or mass communication with an outstanding record of scholarly and professional achievement in journalism and mass communication is preferred. Also, experience with the program's accrediting body, Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC), and previous experience in fundraising/extramural funding would be a plus. Additionally, significant administrative/teaching experience, preferably in a higher-education environment, with a distinguished record of scholarly and professional accomplishments, as well as integration of learning, discovery and engagement.
