Position SummaryPrimary duties will include teaching journalism and/or mass communication courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, engaging in a research program that results in published articles in outstanding scholarly publications and performing service as assigned by the Department, College and University.Detailed Position InformationThe department seeks a colleague whose research, teaching, and leadership is making contributions to advancing the study and practice of journalism and/or mass communication by collaboratively building in areas such as media effects, digital journalism, political and/or health communication, and emerging media technologies. The successful candidate will have an internationally recognized record of innovative research/creative scholarship, with an established history of seeking and obtaining external funding.Minimum Qualifications• Doctorate in journalism and mass communication or related field.• Tenure and promotion at a research institution.• Record of publication in peer-reviewed journals and/or with reputable academic presses that merits strong consideration for tenure and promotion at a research institution.• Record of teaching effectiveness in journalism and mass communication or a related field that merits strong consideration for tenure and promotion at a research institution.• Record of seeking external funding.Preferred Qualifications• Record of obtaining external funding.• Experience advising and mentoring graduate students.• Record of leadership in internationally renowned conferences, peer-reviewed journals, or research centers.• Professional experience in journalism and media or related field.Instructions and Required Materials for ApplicationPlease direct questions to search committee chair Dr. Matthew Barnidge (mhbarnidge@ua.edu / 205-348-7544).
