Essential Functions

Job Summary

Implement a creative-first approach to publicizing UTSA student-athletes, coaches, and sports programs through digital and traditional platforms to enhance the overall UTSA Athletics Brand. Serve coaches and student-athletes to effectively provide program support, media training and brand building.

Serve as primary communications and brand enhancement contact for assigned sports. Responsible for assigned sports' creative-first publicity, brand building, information, and media relations efforts.

Core ResponsibilitiesPromotes assigned sports programs utilizing a creative-first, digital-first mindset to brand enhancement and communications.Displays and applies knowledge of the latest trends in social media accounts.Manages or contributes to assigned social media accounts for assigned sports.Follows and contributes to UTSA Athletics' social media best practices. Regularly create graphics using pre-prepared templates in Adobe Photoshop.Regularly attends practices and team events for assigned sport teams, building strong relationships with coaches and student-athletes, and acquiring feature story content ideas.Supports student-athletes in assigned sports by providing media training and assisting with individual brand building.Supports coaching staff in assigned sports by providing proactive and strategic media counsel and by providing requested statistical information for both UTSA and upcoming opponents in a timely and efficient manner.Supports sports recruiting efforts, helping strategize recruiting content and working collaboratively with the creative team on recruiting content for assigned sports programs.Regularly create press releases, game notes, written student-athlete feature stories, Q&As, and other storytelling-related content for assigned sports for UTSA Athletics' official website. Write effectively using AP style.Develops and maintains good working relationships with local, regional, national, and sport-specific media outlets. Proactively schedule media availabilities and pitch story ideas to media members.Supports game broadcast efforts by providing prompt, in-depth game notes, updated statistics, and compelling storylines related to competition, academics, community service, and personal stories to broadcast crews for both home and away contests.Manages and maintains information for assigned sports on UTSA Athletics' official website.Keeps student-athlete bios regularly up-to-date on UTSA Athletics' official website with bio information updated for assigned teams.Contributes to uploading, tagging, and managing student-athlete brand content for assigned sports on INFLCR.Contributes content to UTSA Athletics publications such as the Brew-1-0, the RAF Newsletter and others.Responsible for creating digital media guide content, editing, and design.Maintains department archival records and statistical files.Oversees statistical crews or serves as official scorer for assigned teams, as applicable, using StatCrew and Genius.Serves as on-campus media services host for assigned intercollegiate athletics events hosted by UTSA.Maintains a strong working knowledge of assigned sports.Knows, understands, and complies with policies of the NCAA, American Athletic Conference, and The University of Texas at San Antonio.Coordinates or assists with the coordination of media services for the NCAA Championship, National Invitation Tournament, or other postseason events.Ability to create/update graphics using Adobe Photoshop.Provides photography services when necessary.Contributes to the department's name, image, and likeness efforts.Performs other duties as assigned.

Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or Sports Management from an accredited institution.Two (2) years of experience in media relations, athletics communications, or sports information.Know and understand policies of the NCAA, American Athletic Conference, and The University of Texas at San Antonio.Microsoft Office; Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Lightroom; Genius and Stat Crew software; Social media platforms (including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram); Desktop publishing and design/layout skills.Write effectively with working knowledge of AP style.

Employment is contingent upon a successful background check.Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.Valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) as applicable.

Working Conditions

Working Environment:Office environment.Travel with teams as assigned.Regular availability on nights and weekends.

Physical Demands:Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.

This position will be primarily located

on campus . Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
