Job Summary:Oberlin College and Conservatory

seeks a communications professional to help us tell the story of one of the nation's premier music conservatories, as Director of Conservatory Communications. The Director will report to Oberlin's Vice President for Communications, with a dotted line to the Dean of the Conservatory.

The Director will have primary responsibility for stewardship of Oberlin Conservatory's brand, admissions-focused communications, internal communications, website, and social media. With a big mandate and one direct report, the Director will organize Conservatory Communications to work collaboratively with Oberlin's larger communications team, which offers professional expertise that includes subject-matter knowledge, writing, editing, video production, photography, media relations, social media, internal communications, art direction, graphic design, web design and development, marketing, project management and more.

Responsibilities:Communications Leadership and Management

Act as the primary steward of Oberlin Conservatory's brand, representing the Conservatory perspective with Oberlin's communications leadership team, advocating to tell the most compelling and brand-aligned stories of the Conservatory, and ensuring the Conservatory is well represented both within the Oberlin community, in the broader Conservatory and music world, and in the world at large.Create and execute a vision and plan for Oberlin Conservatory's communications, with a focus on maintaining and enhancing Oberlin's brand as one of the world's premier music conservatories.Act as trusted communications counsel to the Dean of the Conservatory and Conservatory leadership team.Ensure that the activities of Conservatory Communications are planned and executed on schedule, within established budgets, and meet the needs of Oberlin's various internal and external stakeholders.Manage and oversee the work of Oberlin Conservatory's Event Publicity and Marketing Manager, who has day-to-day responsibility for promoting both free and ticketed events to the campus community and patrons across northern Ohio, as well as alumni, parent, and broader Oberlin community nationally and internationally for tours via public relations, content marketing, social media, direct email, and advertising.Promote and provide communications support to competitions and other official Conservatory events.Work with the Event Publicity and Marketing Manager to hire and manage student workers.Hire and manage a roster of freelancers to support the work of Conservatory Communications.Brand Stewardship

In partnership with Conservatory leadership and Oberlin's communications team, develop and maintain a messaging platform that helps Oberlin Conservatory stay focused on key brand messages in all of its communications.Share the successes of Oberlin Conservatory students, faculty, and alumni, building the case that an Oberlin education provides value that translates into professional and personal success.Manage all content on the Oberlin Conservatory website, ensuring that it is effective, accurate, and up-to-date.Oversee Oberlin Conservatory's social media channels to promote Oberlin's brand, admissions, and event marketing goals.Promote Oberlin Conservatory's work both within the Conservatory and the larger campus community.Promote the work of Oberlin Conservatory to the Oberlin alumni community through the Oberlin Alumni Magazine, social media channels, and more.Pitch Oberlin to both industry and general media outlets, bolstering Oberlin's brand through earned media.Leverage Oberlin's many performances and events to build Oberlin's brand.Support the work of the Oberlin Music Label and leverage releases to build Oberlin Conservatory's brandAdmissions/Program-Focused Communications

Act as a collaborative partner with and marketing communications consultant for the Office of Conservatory Admissions, to help achieve goals articulated by the Conservatory Dean and the Director of Admissions.Produce print and digital recruitment materials for the purpose of marketing to and information-sharing with prospective students and families and their influencers.Create student recruitment email marketing campaigns targeted to each stage of the admissions funnel.Build a robust social media presence that supports Oberlin Conservatory's enrollment efforts.Plan and execute a comprehensive digital and print advertising program to support admission efforts.Develop Oberlin Conservatory's website with an eye toward supporting Conservatory admissions efforts.Required qualifications:Bachelor's degree in a communications or music-related field, or commensurate experienceAt least five years of experience in a communications, arts administration or related role; experience in an arts and/or higher education context preferredStrong knowledge of and ability to write about, talk about, and navigate the music and arts worldStrong writing, editing, and proofreading skillsExperience managing social media, web, and other digital platformsExperience planning print and digital advertising campaignsStrong project management skills; experience using Monday.com or another project management tool a plusExperience managing a budgetExperience updating a website through Drupal or a similar web content management systemAbility to work both independently and collaboratively, and to lead othersAbility to maintain confidentiality and discretionCompensation:Oberlin College offers a competitive salary and an excellent benefits plan.
