Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is hiring for Writing and Speaking Consultants. University Writing & Speaking consultants work with individual students and small groups on writing and presentation related projects. Consultants collaboratively facilitate writing and presentation consultations, provide feedback for essays, reports, research papers, speaking/presentations, and help first-year through graduate level students develop writing and presentation strategies.

Applications from students pursuing degrees in Engineering, Biology, Business, Economics, Anthropology, Geology, Community Health Sciences, and Nursing will be prioritized.

We are currently recruiting for students who want to work during the Fall 2024 semester.

Responsibilities

Facilitate online and in-person consultations in a timely manner and follow UWSC protocols.

Complete several online training modules.

Attend regularly scheduled Friday afternoon workshops throughout the semester and complete training prior to each semester start.

Consultants will be expected to complete all workshops each semester.

Required Qualifications

Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Candidates must have successfully completed ENG 102 (or equivalent) and at least one (1) Core Humanities course (or transfer equivalents) with B or better.

Candidates must have a minimum 2.5+ GPA with a written explanation accepted.

Candidates must possess strong writing, reading, and speaking skills within their discipline.

Candidates should have effective interpersonal communication skills and basic computer familiarity.

Candidates must possess the ability to work with students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Candidates must bring a growth mindset to their work.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates pursuing degrees in Engineering, Biology, Business, Economics, Anthropology, Geology, Community Health Sciences, and Nursing are encouraged to apply.

Completion of ENG 408B or previous experience in an academic support center or other tutoring experience is preferred.

A GPA of 3.0+ GPA is preferred.

Compensation Grade

Student Employee Level 2

$14.00 - $15.00/hr
