Music Director / Organist Somerset Hills Lutheran Church

Job descriptionSomerset Hills Lutheran Church in Basking Ridge, NJ is seeking a Music Director to provide leadership and accompaniment for worship and other musical activities in the church. We are looking for someone who will help us enhance our services, integrating inspiring and meaningful music into our worship, so that we are uplifted as we follow Jesus, caring for our community and making disciples.Our existing music ministries include an adult choir, children’s choir, a small group of instrumentalists, and a contemporary praise team. Our worship services vary and include traditional, blended, and contemporary music styles. The church has a hybrid pipe organ, baby grand piano, a multi-voice keyboard and electronic drum kit, plus a sound system staffed by volunteers for the sanctuary and online worship. Currently, the praise team leads music independently during contemporary worship, and they also provide support and accompaniment to the music director during blended worship services.Specific qualities and abilities:Willing and able to plan music for worship services, including traditional, contemporary, and blended.Able to accompany music and liturgy from the organ.Willing and able to lead/direct contemporary and blended services with band members and accompany on keyboard.Direct adult choir.Direct children’s choir for occasional presentations.Make or use simple arrangements and work with volunteer instrumentalists for occasional music, including vocals, violin, viola, flutes, guitars, and drums/percussion.Support a self-directed bell choir and incorporate it in musical planning.Other responsibilities include:Maintaining the music library content, including purchasing music as needed.Select songs to support worship services using a variety of sources.Manage rehearsal needs and schedules (flexible).Oversee the maintenance of organ and pianos.You also have freedom to compose or arrange your own pieces or accompaniments.Job Type:
