GENERAL DESCRIPTION:The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is committed to providing a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system for the State of Wyoming. We now seek a full-time Road Design Specialist II located in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This job aims to develop, refine, review, and occasionally approve the design of highway construction plans prior to contract bidding.This position offers:**$2,000 Hiring Bonus**

Wyoming is one of only nine states with no state income tax.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Works on concurrent, multiple, complex projectsUtilizes computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software to develop, refine, and review horizontal and vertical alignmentsDetermines and refines excavation, embankment, and hauls quantities for construction of the roadwayDesigns and details other roadway features such as guardrail installations, drainage structures, utility, and right-of-way impacts in accordance with applicable State and Federal design policies and proceduresProduces plans, generates reports, prepares exhibits, attends public meetings and project inspectionsFormulates, reviews, and refines bid item summaries by calculating pay quantities for the materials used to construct the roadway and preparing computer spreadsheets summarizing these quantitiesAssembles contract plans and documentsPREFERENCES:Preference will be given to applicants who have experience with CADD software.KNOWLEDGE:Ability to work independentlyKnowledge of Geometry, algebra, and trigonometryKnowledge of highway engineering concepts and principlesKnowledge of CADD softwareSkill in attention to detailMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Bachelor's Degree (typically in Engineering)Experience:0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in the Transportation occupational group) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Design Specialist IOREducation & Experience Substitution:3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in the Transportation occupational group) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Design Specialist ICertificates, Licenses, Registrations:NonePHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:Occasional travel required
