A Free Bird is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization based in New York City. Our organization provides children diagnosed with cancer the opportunity to explore their artistic passions. Artistic expression has been proven to play an instrumental role in the healing process. We support children affected by cancer in their exploration of a range of self expression such as art, music, acting, poetry, writing, singing and other creative mediums.Job Description:As a Communications Manager, plays a vital role in amplifying A Free Bird’s mission and impact. Collaborating closely with internal teams and external partners, crafting and executing comprehensive communication strategies across various channels to engage stakeholders, drive awareness, and support fundraising efforts. Leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of integrated communication strategies across multiple channels. – Communications Manager will report to the Director of Communications.Responsibilities:Develop and execute comprehensive communication strategies encompassing social media, media relations, email campaigns, and other communication channels.Create and refine communication materials to convey consistent key messages aligned with branding and digital strategies.Cultivate strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, effectively communicating complex concepts in clear, accessible language.Mentor and develop junior team members, ensuring high-quality deliverables and professional growth.Maintain rigorous quality control over all communication outputs and provide regular progress reports and client briefings.Oversee the editorial direction, design, and distribution of publications and marketing materials, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.Act as a liaison with the media, responding to inquiries and representing A Free Bird in public-facing interactions.Lead special projects such as cause-related marketing initiatives and events, driving engagement and visibility.Develop and monitor budgets for communication activities, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and financial targets.Stay informed of industry trends and best practices in communication, incorporating new developments to enhance our outreach efforts.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or related field.3+ years of experience in communication or marketing roles, preferably in the nonprofit sector.Proven track record of developing and executing successful communication strategies.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms.Passion for our mission and dedication to making a difference in the lives of children affected by cancer.Proficiency in Google Analytics and other measurement tools to assess campaign effectiveness.Experience managing websites and leveraging social and digital media for strategic communication.Strong understanding of marketing principles and practices, with a mission-driven approach.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
