POSITION SUMMARY:
The Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff Library (AUC Woodruff Library) supports the teaching and learning missions of four institutions of higher learning that comprise the world’s largest consortium of HBCUs—Clark Atlanta University, the Interdenominational Theological Center, Morehouse College, and Spelman College. Conveniently located and easily accessible to the campuses, the AUC Woodruff Library is the center of intellectual and social life at the Atlanta University Center.
The Atlanta University Center – Robert W. Woodruff Library is committed to displaying excellence in our service delivery. To continue this standard of excellence, the library seeks a knowledgeable, engaging, dynamic Systems Librarian Resident.
The Systems Librarian Resident will join the Collections and Content Management (CCM) unit, reporting to the Systems Librarian and providing an opportunity for an early-career or recent MLS graduate to gain experience in academic librarianship within a supportive environment. This position will support the integration, maintenance, and optimization of library technologies, including integrated library systems (ILS), discovery platforms, and electronic resources. Working closely with library staff and technology partners, the Resident troubleshoots technical issues, implements system enhancements, and explores emerging technologies. This role contributes to the library’s mission of enhancing user experiences and streamlining library operations by ensuring seamless system interoperability, providing training and support, driving continuous improvement, and accessibility to library resources.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Train under senior staff to manage the library’s OCLC-based integrated library system (ILS), ensuring accurate configuration, data integrity, and optimal system performance.
- Participate in the maintenance and updating of library databases, including routine upgrades, data migrations, and record clean-up activities.
- Learn to manage the lifecycle of electronic resources and print serials, including access, maintenance, and end-user support.
- Coordinate with library colleagues to optimize the discovery of continuing and electronic resources through the library’s discovery system and other appropriate venues.
- Troubleshoot hardware issues and access problems related to continuing and electronic resources, collaborating closely with IT professionals as needed.
- Develop and document procedures for library operations, promoting consistency and efficiency across all technology-based processes.
- Monitor industry trends and best practices related to library systems, recommending improvements to tools and workflows that enhance user experiences.
- Collaborate with IT professionals to plan and develop applications that support and expand library services.
- Work hours for this position will be aligned with project requirements and organizational needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Eagerness to learn about the role and responsibilities.
- Basic understanding of integrated library systems (preferably OCLC), including configuration, data management, and troubleshooting.
- Curiosity about managing electronic resources and print serials, with basic knowledge of authentication methods and common access issues.
- Basic proficiency in data analysis and migration, including the ability to work with spreadsheets or scripting tools to maintain data integrity.
- Strong problem-solving and technical troubleshooting abilities, particularly in collaboration with IT teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively coordinate with diverse library and campus stakeholders.
- Ability to create clear and concise documentation for workflows, best practices, and staff training.
- Willingness to stay current with emerging trends and technologies in library systems and integrate them into existing workflow.
PREFERRED:
- Recent college graduate; individuals at any career stage are welcome and encouraged to apply.
- Background in IT or Systems.
- Familiarity with OCLC or a similar ILS.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- MLS degree from an ALA-accredited library school.
