Skills Required:Excellent written communication skillsAbility to organize and present written and verbal information about studentsAbility to organize the learning environment of studentsAbility to work as a transdisciplinary team memberAbility to manage students’ behaviorAbility to plan and implement student instructionAbility to supervise paraprofessional staffMost tasks require oral communication, visual and hearing perception, and the ability to get around the classrooms, cafeteria, gym, campus, etc.Job Requirements:Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree preferredMusic Therapist Certification or Music Teacher Certification requiredTwo years teaching experience in special education preferredThe essential functions of the job described require the ability to exert moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, kneeling, crouching and brisk walking, and which may involve lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and material of moderate weight (40 pounds)Supervise students during emergency drills, play periods and community-based instruction; the ability to keep up with running children and/or to lift, position or assist with lifting students is essential to perform this taskAbility to physically restrain students for their safety and the safety of othersCurrent Act 34, 114, and 151 clearancesPre-employment medical examination, including a tuberculosis test requiredJob Responsibilities:Plan and conduct assessments – record and interpret assessment dataDevelop lesson plans specific to skills practiced in music classAdapt music lessons to student’s abilities and needsComplete student progress reports, specific to music classOrder music suppliesPlan, implement, and adapt instructional activitiesOrganize and maintain a safe and effective learning environmentUtilize appropriate behavior management strategies and techniquesCommunicate routinely with parents and appropriate school district personnelWork effectively within a transdisciplinary educational teamParticipate in WISCA program activitiesTravel between sites as neededOther duties as assigned by supervisor
