Job DescriptionProvides professional level services in the selection and maintenance of juvenile materials relevant to the system’s collection and in keeping with the diverse interests of the community, encouraging both exploration and understanding of selection in current events, permanent and historical collections, patron requests/bequests and online resources. Selection of some materials may be in combination with upcoming public library programming, events or special collections requests in a specific subject area. Will lead the annual author program and help in the planning and implementation of the Youth Summer Reading Program. Oversees budget allocations and expenditures in collection, keeps in touch with library staff throughout the system on a regular basis ensuring their questions or concerns are heard and works with the Collection Development Supervisor and fellow Librarians as required.Job RequirementsALA/MLS degree required with at least 1 year of progressive development in the field of professional librarianship, collection development/maintenance, programming and working with a diverse community needed. The ability to work independently; to meet deadlines and commitments; communicate and express ideas effectively in both verbal and written format and follow guidelines and procedures set forth essential. Excellent public relations, presentation and speaking skills required. Must possess physical attributes to stand, kneel, walk, reach, stoop and lift up to 35 pounds as work activity, programming, set-up and daily activities mandate with or without requested assistance may be required along with the ability to work in an environment that may contain dust and mildew, varying lighting and noise levels. The ability to interact with the public and staff in a courteous and professional manner required.
