Overview

You will join the Human Factors & Experience Design (HFXD) team and help shape Johnson & Johnson's Robotics & Digital programs and products.

As a Lead UX Prototyping Design Engineer, you will be responsible for providing direct support for products and programs across the range of Robotics and Digital programs. You'll bring experience and creativity that will help our team navigate interesting questions and challenges in the world of medical robotics. You will work closely with many different cross functional teams including Industrial Design, UX Design, UX Research, Human Factors Engineers, and Hardware Engineering. Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with designers and UX researchers to understand their vision and bring it to life through prototypingWork closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of prototypes into final designsCraft visions and concepts in code for a variety of mediums (GUI Application, 3D Graphics, AR/VR) and modalities (touchscreen, voice, gesture, sensors etc)Conceptualize and build realistic prototypes for user testing and evaluation, including instrumentation or other interaction measurement featuresMaintain a high level of quality and consistency in all prototypesAct as a mentor and resource for junior developers and prototypers, providing guidance and supportEmbrace a collaborative and team-oriented work culture to achieve project goals

Qualifications:

Education

Required

Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline

Preferred

Master’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline

Skills And Experience

At least 10 years of experience developing for highly sophisticated systems (or Masters plus 8 years)Deep understanding of engineering fundamentalsDemonstrated ability in solving technical problems creatively using a broad engineering toolkitHighly proficient 3D CAD skills (Solidworks)Skilled in selecting prototyping and fabrication technologies to bring prototypes to life to meet different business needs (quick POC to "looks like, works like" for user testing)Demonstrated ability in plastic, sheet metal, and CNC part designExperience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)

Preferred

Self-motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skillsPassion for building systems that incorporate new user interface solutions to improve UXSkilled in GD&T and statistical tolerance analysis techniquesUnderstanding of structural analysis and failure modes of complex mechanical system

This position is based in Santa Clara, CA and requires the ability to travel up to 10%, international and domestic

The anticipated base pay range for this position is [$122,500] to [$211,400].

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
