Senior Strategic Communications and Engagement Specialist

Key Responsibilities:

Provide the Force Safety and Occupational

Safety office work to design and execute safety communications campaigns

both internal to FSOH, Readiness, and in conjunction with the Services and

the other DoD Components.

Conduct research on specific

focus areas.

Draft public affairs guidance,

communications plans with talking points and timelines, and briefing cards

for senior leader use in speaking about specific focus areas.

Coordinate with the OSD Office of

Public Affairs and Legislative Affairs in support of communications plan

implementation and in response to specific requests for information.

Draft talking points, press

releases, and other related products for implementation of communications

plan and in response to specific requests for information.

Recommend message and information

development for safety and occupational health and related focus areas.

Identify target audiences and

develop messages based on the target audiences.

Plan and execute strategic safety

engagements for FSOH Director and Assistant Secretary of Defense for

Readiness.

This includes but is not

limited to coordinating and preparing local Washington, DC and other

Continental US engagements for senior leaders and working directly with

DoD VIPs and their staff.

Provide all protocol and other

executive support for the identification, planning, coordination, and

execution for safety strategic engagements.

Develop detailed

"play-by-play" itineraries for executive travel and events.

Aid with drafting content for

strategic safety engagements including agendas, briefings, read ahead

materials, talking points, background, etc.

Coordinate and finalize plans,

monitoring project/engagement progress, and supporting the event(s) to

completion, including any follow up actions and documentation.

Identify and support contingency

planning.

Plan and execute additional

outreach events and activities such as conferences, meetings, award

ceremonies, etc.

Basic Qualifications:

Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in

Communications or similar field.

Minimum of 6-8 years of directly related

experience in providing knowledge and abilities supporting strategic

communications planning and senior leader strategic engagements to

highlight safety activities and recognize safety leaders.

Demonstrated excellent

communications, organization, and presentation skills with all levels of

staff throughout the DoD.

Detail oriented.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to maintain flexibility

and ability to change course quickly if needed.

Experience in providing project

management support, to include demonstrated writing and briefing skills.

Strong computer literacy

(Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint,

Share Point and Teams).

Experience establishing and

maintaining working relationships with multi-disciplinary professionals at

leadership and staff levels both within and outside the organization.

Ability to work independently and

with a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a similar

role within the Department of Defense (strategic communications planning,

executive logistics, protocol, legislative and public affairs).

Experience with military protocol

and planning for VIP engagements.

Experience working with Senior

civilian and Service member leaders in the Pentagon or similar “joint”

environment.

Working understanding of Office

of Secretary of Defense roles and DoD protocol.
