Plug Power is the industry leader providing hydrogen-powered fuel cell systems for material handling equipment, backup power and on-road vehicles. The Design Manager will report to the Director of Mechanical Design and act in a dual role split between management duties and product design responsibilities. The Design Manager will manage a design team capable of creating world-class products in a rapid and deliberate manner that satisfies the company's development needs. The Design Manager will prioritize and lead the work of the product design team and be directly responsible for complex product designs. This role requires close interaction with the entire engineering organization to ensure development efforts are coordinated. The role also requires close interaction with the sales, supply chain, quality, manufacturing and service teams to ensure designs meet cross functional requirements. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, able to handle multiple assignments and willing to learn and adapt in a fast-paced product engineering organization.Core Duties And Responsibilities

Manage design team including setting priorities and driving project schedulesDevelop standards and best practices for the design team and set work quality expectationsServe as CAD Administrator with support of the Information Technology team to ensure engineering design tools function properly and efficientlyProvide on-going training for engineering design tools and standard procedures to create a high performing and efficient design teamIdentify design tool improvements needed to maintain quality work at an efficient paceLead product development activities from concept stage to volume productionDesign complex products that meet all engineering requirements plus company objectives for cost, manufacturability, quality, service and scheduleLead cross functional design reviewsLead product releases and design changes through company ECR/ECN proceduresFlexibility and the ability to meet strict requirements to tight scheduleWork professionally and cooperatively in a cross-functional team environment with a focus upon maximizing system performance and customer satisfactionRepresent Plug Power in a professional manner in all interactions; support the philosophy of the organization to provide high-performing technology to maximize customer satisfactionExempt employees are expected to work as many hours as is necessary to complete their job responsibilities. This may require they work more than eight hours a day and more than five days or 40 hours per week.Education And Experience

BS degree in engineering or other applicable field of studyTen (10) years of related work historyEffective communication abilities; strength in communicating complex concepts in an understandable formAdvanced knowledge of PTC Creo and Windchill software including large assembly management and data managementExpert knowledge of ASME 14.5M-2009 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing specificationsProficiency with Microsoft Office softwareSupreme organizational abilities and attention to detailInspirational leadership characteristics: proven ability to coach and enable team developmentProven track record in project management; delivering quality results on-time and on budgetDynamic interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences and stakeholders at all levelsUncompromising dedication to qualityDemonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detailTeamwork oriented and focusedExcellent task-oriented follow-throughPay Rate
