The Contract Senior Civil / Structural Designer should possess the skills, experience, and knowledge to support the Project Management Team. This position reports directly to the Manager of Engineering at the current time and will assist other engineering and design positions as needed to effectively coordinate design and quality practices. The successful candidate is required to exhibit excellent communication abilities, technical proficiency, proactive & positive discipline leadership and a continuous pursuit of safety while in the office and performing field observations. Spartan demands the utmost quality and maintains a culture of inter-disciplinary support ensuring timely delivery of our projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:Technical ResponsibilitiesSupport of engineering design and analysis projects for the oil & gas, mining, and renewable power industriesAdvanced application of technical principles, theories, standards, and concepts. This will include reading and understanding design drawings and technical specifications as necessary to support preparation of project deliverables, such as calculations and specificationsDesign and analysis of changes to existing structures as well as new building systems/designFoundation design and mechanical & electrical system support calculations, designs, and specificationsDevelop roadway designs and specificationsPerform reviews, assemble and prepare design reportsDevelopment of drawings using CAD software (Civil3D, ArcGIS, STAAD.Pro)Coordinate design elements with other project/discipline team membersPerform site walkdowns to identify design solutions and develop cost-effective problem resolutionPerform site inspections and field support for construction of structural designsLiterate in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Teams at a minimum)Willingness to travel as required for project development (less than 10% is normal)Must be able to traverse client sites to conduct walkdowns including, but not limited to, climbing ladders and stairsMust be able to work outside at client sites in all weather conditionsMust be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship

Project ManagementAssist leadership on large scale FEED and Detail Design stage projectsAssist leadership on small scale C/S focused FEED and Detail Design stage projectsAssist in effective management of discipline budget and scheduleCommunicate and develop project change requests to Project ManagementAssist in maintaining strong communication lines with clients and project team members (internal and external)

Business DevelopmentProvides technical support to the Business Development Team, as needed.Generates labor estimates, deliverable lists, technical & commercial qualificationsCoordinates proposed design concepts with other engineering disciplines and proposal staffConstantly promotes the Company and capitalizes upon opportunities to capture work

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:Minimum Associates Degree in drafting and/or 10 + years of experience in design related positionMinimum of 10-12 years of C/S design experienceAbility to be an individual contributor and work effectively in teamsStrong technical survey experience both in the field and the office is a plusFamiliar with latest material codes for steel, concrete, cold-formed steel and other industrial materialsFamiliar with the International Building code and building code design
