The SARA, Inc. High Power Electromagnetics Division (HPEM) is looking for a highly experienced

Senior RF Engineer

with specialized expertise in high power RF and microwave systems, coupled with a strong foundation in Multiphysics approaches to complex problem solving in Colorado Springs, CO. This role involves leading the development and implementation of advanced RF solutions, tackling the challenges of RF interactions in various scenarios, and driving innovation within the field. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in high power RF engineering, exceptional analytical skills, and the capacity to mentor junior engineers. The candidate will have the opportunity to grow and learn with talented engineers, physicists, and technicians on long-standing programs and new programs supporting our customers. Our small group will allow the candidate to experience, contribute, and collaborate in a multidisciplinary nature from conception all the way through to operation.

The candidate must be a high-performing engineer with a substantial technical pedigree in Electromagnetics, high power RF Technologies, and Applied Physics. Candidates must be strong team participants, have excellent communication skills, be resourceful and creative, and willing to contribute to a multidisciplinary and fast-paced engineering environment.

Core Responsibilities:Lead the design and development of high-power RF and microwave systems, ensuring robustness, efficiency, and compliance with industry standardsApply Multiphysics modeling and simulation techniques to analyze and optimize RF interactions in complex environmentsSpearhead research and development projects, translating innovative concepts into practical applications and system improvementsOversee the experimental validation of RF designs, including high power tests and safety complianceCollaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate RF technologies into broader systems, addressing challenges in electromagnetic compatibility and thermal managementMentor junior engineers and technical staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learningContribute to technical strategy and roadmap development, staying ahead of technological advancements and identifying opportunities for patentable innovationsPrepare technical documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and operational manuals

Technical SkillsetsHigh proficiency in RF and thermal design software like AWR, ADS, SPICE, OrCAD, COMSOL, PYTHON, CST, or MATLAB for design, simulation, and analysisExpert knowledge of high-power RF/microwave engineering principles, including high voltage effects, thermal considerations, and material scienceStrong background in RF engineering principles, electromagnetic theory, signal processing, and wireless high-power systemsExperience with high-power RF equipment and safety standards

Requirements:Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field, with a specialization in RF/microwave engineering6+ years of experience in RF engineering, with a focus on high power applicationsDemonstrable success in leading RF design projects from concept through productionSolid understanding of applied physics principles relevant to RF technologiesAbility to analyze complex technical problems and devise effective solutionsPrecision in design, testing, and troubleshooting to ensure system reliability and performanceEffective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environmentMust be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret or equivalent clearanceUS CitizenshipAvailable for moderate levels of travel and off-site workMay require moderate physical effort, involving standing, sitting and use of hands while performing duties, carrying or lifting up to 50 poundsWorking environment is indoor, moderately quiet, reasonably clean, well-lighted and well-ventilated, moderate physical hazards may exist

Preferred Qualifications:PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field with emphasis on RF/microwave engineeringExtensive experience in Multiphysics modeling and solving complex RF interaction problemsExtensive experience with solid-state RF design and high power RF technologiesProven track record of innovation and leadership in advanced RF technologies and applicationsPublication record in relevant scientific or engineering journalsStrong familiarity with COMSOL Multiphysics simulation suiteIn-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with software-defined radios (SDRs), including familiarity with SDR hardware, software platforms (e.g., GNU Radio), and the development of custom digital signal processing algorithmsExpertise in the design, simulation, and testing of Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMICs), including proficiency with MMIC design tools and fabrication processesExperience mentoring and leading teams in a technical capacityActive DoD Secret or Top Secret Clearance

Salary Range: $100,000 - $165,000
