Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures (JHTV) supports the commercialization of university technology through technology licensing, the development of spon-sored research agreements and venture creation. JHTV serves as a business advisor to investigators at all nine schools of the university whose research has commercial potential and provides a set of specific resources to aid them, includ-ing IP protection, technology analysis, marketing and licensing support, transla-tional and venture funding support, physical space though its FastForward inno-vation hubs, and professional services (e.g. mentorship, pro bono legal and ac-counting services, and educational programming).

We are seeking a

Communications Associate.

The Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures (JHTV) is seeking a highly detailed and organized individual to join our Marketing and Communications team as a Communications Associate. Reporting to the Director of Marketing, they will be responsible for working within JHTV and with university communications colleagues to maximize Johns Hopkins' reputa-tion as a translationally-oriented and productive institution with a robust entrepre-neurial ecosystem. This person will pitch and position the division (JHTV), JHU, and Baltimore for various audiences including students, faculty, alumni, inves-tors/industry partners, startups, and the broader public.

Primary areas of responsibilityThis role involves creating high-quality content that will take various forms (long-form storytelling, speechwriting, educational materials) and primary responsibility for digital media communications (social media, newsletters, website content). The incumbent will also serve as the media relations representative for JHTV, managing incoming requests as well as actively pitching stories. This will involve a high level of coordination with the "central" communications teams at Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Medicine as well as with communications colleagues in divisions campuswide.

Specific Duties & ResponsibilitiesContent Development (50%) Create and edit written materials, including articles, press releases, newsletters, speeches, and social media content. Develop and maintain content calendars to ensure timely and relevant communications. Ensure all content aligns with the organization's tone, style, and messaging guidelines.Media Relations and Third-Party Requests (20%) Build and maintain rela-tionships with media contacts. Coordinate and manage media inquiries and interviews. Create media briefings for JHTV staff. Monitor media cov-erage and develop strategies to enhance media presence.General & Miscellaneous (20%) Project Management: Manage communi-cation projects from conception to completion; Coordinate with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals; Monitor project timelines and budgets to ensure successful delivery. Measurement and Reporting: Track and analyze the effectiveness of communication efforts; Provide regular reports on communication metrics and KPIs; Use data to inform and im-prove communication strategies.Communications Strategy (10%) Assist the JHTV Marketing & Communi-cations team in the development of clear, consistent, cohesive messaging and support the development and execution of a JHTV communications strategy. Liaise with communications colleagues across the university, in particular with the JHU Media Relations team, to align on messaging and strategies. Conduct research and ongoing engagement with the campus research community, the local innovation ecosystem, and broad technolo-gy/market trends to identify communications opportunities and update strategies.

Special Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesKnowledge of social and mobile media, including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and LinkedIn.Understanding of CRM software, CMS platforms (WordPress), Adobe Cre-ative Suite, Microsoft Office, Google Analytics, Mailchimp or other email platforms, other tracking tools, social media and digital marketing plat-forms.Ability to translate vision into actions through communications, projects and relationships.Excellent organization and planning skills with the ability to navigate multi-ple projects and priorities with strong problem-solving ability.Exceptional ability to build relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, to be influential and to perform in a broad range of environ-ments.Effective communicator with excellent written and verbal communication experience, experience editing/providing feedback on the work of others.Demonstrated versatility in writing styles, including copy for marketing col-lateral, social media posts, and feature stories for web.Outstanding interpersonal and collaboration skills, with a high degree of professionalism and the ability to exercise good judgment, diplomacy, and discretion, with diverse populations and situations.Analytical skills"able to leverage data to inform both marketing and com-munications decisions.Project management"demonstrated initiative, problem solving, attention to detail and team management skills.Strong collaboration and team skills.

Minimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree in related field.Four years related experience.Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred QualificationsU.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident required due to federal export controls.Experience with heavily technical / scientific writing.

Basic understanding of graphic design principles.
