The Communications Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating media communications, digital activity and public relations operations across the organisation in order to maximise sales, increase brand awareness and promote the ethos, creative work and community work of Newcastle Theatre Royal.The principal responsibilities can be summarised as follows:Campaign Communications

• Alongside the Senior Marketing Officer, have responsibility for developing timely and coordinated marketing campaigns for the wide range of productions at Theatre Royal. Key responsibilities including planning email communications, social media schedules and PR activity.• Support the Communications Coordinator to identify and develop creative ideas for impactful media stories to promote our creative programme; oversee all aspects of show media campaigns including writing and distribution of media releases, sourcing and distributing images, setting up and running interviews, attending photo-calls and filming opportunities, media invites, Q&As and briefing spokespeople.• To establish and maintain strong connections with visiting companies, artists and external publicists to facilitate healthy communication channels and share production updates internally.• Oversee and attend press nights.• Build and cultivate an active database of media contacts and advocates, including proactively identifying key digital influencers to explore new opportunities.• To work with the Head of Marketing to monitor the effectiveness of all PR promotional activity to contribute to marketing strategies.• To oversee the production of season brochures and manage associated communications activity.• Providing actionable insight on consumer buying habits, in order to inform campaign activity and along with the Head of Marketing continuously review and improve strategies.

Digital Communications

• To develop and manage the Theatre Royal website in line with the Trust’s marketing strategy and keep up to date with latest trends and functionality.• Oversee the Digital Officer and Communications Coordinator in the day to day maintenance of website content ensuring a proactive approach to updating content regularly to engage new and existing audiences.• To be responsible for the management of effective multipurpose email campaigns with engaging content that promotes a call to action and oversee the Digital Officer in the development and execution of e-comms activity.• To oversee a strategic approach to the use of social media in support of marketing campaigns and the wider aims of the theatre; oversee the Digital Officer in the delivery of all social media activity with the aim of developing organic growth on all our channels through producing consistent high quality and creative content.• Alongside the Digital Officer, lead and deliver digital marketing strategies across the full range of our work including our creative programme, learning, engagement and participation activities and our building and heritage.• Oversee the Digital Officer in producing regular analysis of online activities, both paid and unpaid, through managing the Theatre Royal Google Analytics account, social media account and Wordfly analytics.

Corporate Communications

• Working with the Head of Marketing to develop and implement a corporate communications strategy that increases the profile of the theatre’s on and off-stage work locally, regionally and nationally.• Alongside the Head of Marketing and Senior Marketing Officer, be responsible for the development and implementation of the Trust’s corporate identity ensuring all communications across departments are consistent with the Theatre Royal’s overarching narrative, brand guidelines and other key messages.• Lead on the creation of impactful corporate communications materials. Working collaboratively with all departments to increase awareness and appreciation of our work beyond main stage productions.• Manage media communications relating to current affairs and industry-wide issues, positioning Theatre Royal as a source of appropriate commentary.• Provide strategic and tactical advice to manage Theatre Royal’s media reputation. Proactively identify and mitigate communications and reputational risks, advise and brief internal colleagues and spokespeople.• Support the Head of Marketing and Head of People in the development and implementation of engaging internal communications activities to keep all members of the team informed and engaged with the theatre’s vision, mission and values.• To maintain an up-to-date awareness of all aspects of the work of the Theatre Royal and its activities, as well as the arts in general and the theatre industry in particular; to develop and maintain good relationships with key partners in order to ensure that the Theatre Royal is promoted as a key part of the both the City and the region.• The line management of the Digital Officer and Communications Coordinator roles; to oversee their training and development in accordance with the departmental and organisational aims and objectives – with emphasis on maintaining highest standards of customer care and exceeding customer’s expectations Person SpecificationThe post holder should have:Minimum three years’ experience in a communications/PR-based role.Experience managing website content.Experience managing multi-purpose email schedules and creating engaging email campaigns.Experience delivering digital marketing strategies including paid-for social media campaigns and knowledge of SEO best practices.Ability to effectively communicate brand vision.Strong copywriting skills, with experience writing engaging corporate communications.Experience in developing & monitoring all promotional work at a strategic level.Ideally they would also have:Knowledge of coordinating marketing activity.Experience working with digital messaging platforms.Experience of working with CRM systems and the ability to analyse and interpret data, extract relevant insight and communicate it clearly.Experience in internal communications.Recognised qualification in Marketing/PR (CAM/ CIPR).Experience in a similar role within the arts, ideally in a Theatre environment.Duties as a member of the Theatre Royal teamEnsuring that the working environment and practices conform to the Trust’s Health and Safety and GDPR Policies, appropriate Child Protection legislation and Health and Safety LegislationTo take all reasonable care and responsibility for the Health and Safety of themselves and other persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions and to co-operate with the Trust in achieving and maintaining Health and Safety requirements.Be fully committed to the Trust’s Equality Policy;

Tuesday 27th August, 9amPayThe position is salaried at £36,570 per annum.Hours of Work39 hours per week. The post holder will be expected to work occasional evenings and weekends within their contracted hours to manage press nights and promotional events. We offer hybrid working in the role.Training

The post-holder will be offered induction training as well as ongoing training and professional development based on the needs of the individual and requirements of the post.Holiday20 days plus public holidays rising to 25 days with length of service.
