Job Summary:

The Director of Communications and Family Ministries plays an integral role in the working of the church. This role is responsible for church communications, coordinating schedules, greeting the public, and expediting the exchange of information between congregation, staff, and other entities. This role is also responsible for creating a supportive and engaging program for children, youth, and their families that connects them to, and grows their understanding of, the love of Christ for all people through programs, missions, and outreach into the community.

Description of Role through our Vision

Seek

Communicates about church activities via Social Media, Website, Email, and Print.

Provides information to those reaching out to the church whether in person, digitally, or via voice.

Work with the Age Level and Family Council in planning a variety of events/activities for the youth/children and attend the events to show support to the families.

Attend staff meetings and church activities.

Form relationships with Watkins Preschool Staff, Teachers, and Families.

Connect

Provides information for church committees as requested.

Creates weekly bulletin for worship services.

Maintains office records on digital (O365) files.

Coordinates Church Calendar and usage per appropriate guidelines.

Communicates with bookkeeping firm financial data from Planning Center Online.

Attend and maintain minutes for Staff Meetings, Age Level and Family Ministry Meetings, Lead Team Meetings, and Children’s Governing Board Meetings.

Assists in developing an Office and Family Ministry budget that reflects the mission and financial capabilities of the church.

Connect directly with parents/guardians of children/youth to develop consistent two-way communication and input regarding the activities and needs of their family members.

Nurture

Identify, recruit, train and oversee the Adult Volunteers for implementing the Family Ministry programs.

Develops and encourages relationships that foster a Christian atmosphere within the church and its activities.

Create an environment in which a grace-filled, and Wesleyan theology (UMC) is taught and formed within each student and child.

Promote a Family Ministry experience that leads individuals to a strong relationship in Christ and encourages them to safely discuss, question, and express emotions as they build community together.

Qualifications

M.Div. (or similar applicable degree) completed or in progress would be a plus, but not required.

Microsoft Office Competency – Word, Teams, Publisher, Outlook.

Understanding of Social Media – Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok.

Knowledge of United Methodist theology.

Excellent communication skills, both orally and written.

Skill and ability to organize and plan events, including enlisting volunteer help.

Ability to work independently and establish priorities without supervision.

Problem solving skills.

Training and/or experience in children/youth ministries.

Interactions with others are respectful and professional.

Events and Programs shall be coordinated with the Age Level and Family Ministry Committee. Communication of these programs should be in clear alignment with the Mission and Vision of the church. All events and programs should have appropriate Staff/Volunteer supervision that meet Safe Sanctuary Guidelines.
