Position Summary:

The Director of Marketing and Communications for VisitNorman is a senior leadership role responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive marketing strategies to promote Norman, Oklahoma, as a premier destination for travel and tourism. This position oversees a dynamic team and works closely with various stakeholders, including internal departments, external agencies, and community partners, to enhance destination awareness and drive visitation to the region.

Key Responsibilities:Strategic Leadership:Lead the development and execution of VisitNorman’s annual marketing and communications plan.

Oversee the strategy for branding, advertising, media buying, public relations, digital marketing, and social media efforts.

Champion data-driven decision-making by utilizing market research, data analytics, and performance metrics to inform marketing strategies and measure success.

Collaborate closely with the sales team to advance Norman’s position as a top destination for conventions, sports events, and leisure travel.Team Management:Directly manage the marketing and communications team, ensuring effective workflow integration across all platforms and initiatives.

Foster a collaborative, creative, and inclusive work environment that encourages team members to perform at their highest potential.

Provide ongoing training and development opportunities to ensure the team stays current with industry trends and best practices.Agency and Vendor Relations:Build and oversee relationships with external agencies and vendors, ensuring alignment with VisitNorman’s brand and marketing strategy.

Oversee the development and maintenance of VisitNorman’s website, ensuring it reflects the brand and is user-friendly for visitors.Community and Stakeholder Engagement:Represent VisitNorman in local, state, and national task forces, committees, and boards.

Engage with community stakeholders to promote tourism and foster partnerships that enhance Norman’s tourism offerings.

Serve as the primary spokesperson for VisitNorman in media interactions when needed, along with President.Budget and Reporting:Create and manage the marketing division’s budget, ensuring all activities are within financial parameters.

Provide regular reports on marketing activities, performance metrics, and key initiatives to executive leadership and the board of directors.

Ensure all public funds are used in compliance with existing guidelines and that necessary reporting is completed accurately and on time.Qualifications:Education and Experience:Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Management, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.

A minimum of 10 years of experience in marketing, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, preferably in the travel and tourism industry.

Proven success in managing a marketing team and executing comprehensive marketing strategies.

Experience with destination marketing, media buying, public relations, digital marketing, and website management.Skills and Abilities:Strong knowledge of marketing, advertising, public relations, and digital media strategies.

Excellent leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on continuous improvement.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including presentation abilities.

Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while meeting established timelines.

Website Development: Proven expertise in designing, developing, and maintaining websites. Proficient in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Joomla). Ability to integrate SEO best practices and analytics tools to drive online traffic and improve user engagement.

Graphic Design History: Strong understanding of the evolution and principles of graphic design. Ability to apply historical knowledge to create visually compelling and brand-consistent designs. Proficient in using industry-standard design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).

Digital Marketing: Skilled in creating and executing comprehensive digital marketing campaigns, including social media, email marketing, and online advertising. Familiarity with current trends and tools in digital marketing to drive brand visibility and customer engagement.

Branding and Visual Communication: Strong sense of brand identity and the ability to create consistent visual messaging across all platforms. Experience in developing brand guidelines and ensuring brand coherence in all marketing materials.

Creative Strategy: Innovative thinker with the ability to develop and execute creative marketing strategies that align with business goals. Experience in conducting market research to inform design and marketing decisions.Other Requirements:Valid driver’s license and access to a car.
