POSITION DETAILS:

The Director of Strategic Communications is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing internal and external communication strategies to effectively communicate the vision, goals, and accomplishments of the school corporation. This role involves managing media relations, overseeing the production of communication materials, and ensuring consistent and positive messaging across all channels.

The successful candidate will lead strategic efforts to effectively reach and engage diverse families within our school corporation. This role is critical in fostering inclusive and transparent communication channels. The ideal candidate will be experienced in developing and implementing culturally responsive communication strategies and possess strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in communications, public relations, or a related field, preferably within an educational-focused organization.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong media relations and crisis communication experience.

Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms, including social media, content management systems, and graphic design software.

Demonstrated success in developing and implementing communication strategies that effectively engage diverse communities.

Strong understanding of cultural competency and ability to communicate with families from diverse backgrounds.

Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Strong leadership and team management skills.

An understanding of the public Pre-K through 12-grade educational landscape.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Communication Planning:

Develop and execute a comprehensive communication strategy that aligns with the corporation’s commitment to educational equity and the school district’s mission, vision, and goals.

Identify communication needs and develop strategies to address them.

Media Relations:

Serve as the primary contact for all media inquiries.

Build and maintain positive relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets.

Prepare and distribute press releases, media advisories, and news stories.

Organize and coordinate media events, interviews, and press conferences.

Internal Communications:

Ensure effective communication within the school district among administrators, teachers, staff, students, and parents.

Develop and distribute internal newsletters, memos, and other communication materials.

Facilitate open communication channels to gather feedback and address concerns.

Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and community leaders to identify and address the unique communication needs of diverse families.

External Communications:

Manage the school district’s website and social media presence.

Create and oversee the production of brochures, newsletters, reports, and other publications.

Create and distribute multilingual communication materials to ensure accessibility for non-English speaking families.

Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all communication platforms.

Organize and facilitate community events, workshops, and forums to foster open dialogue and build trust between the school corporation and all family groups.

Crisis Communication:

Develop and implement crisis communication plans.

Serve as the district’s spokesperson during crises and manage the dissemination of information.

Provide training and support to staff on effective communication during emergencies.

Community Engagement:

Foster positive relationships with community stakeholders, including parents, businesses, and local organizations.

Organize and participate in community events to promote the school district.

Facilitate partnerships and collaborations that support district initiatives.

Leadership and Management:

Lead and manage the communications team, including assigning tasks and providing professional development.

Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies and adjust as needed.

Prepare and manage the communications budget.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Typical office environment with occasional travel within the district. Some evening and weekend work will be required for events and meetings.

Job Type: Full-time
