Job Description

The Creative Arts Therapist L II is an integral member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team within Psychiatry. The therapist provides patients with opportunities to deal directly with their primary conflicts that led to hospitalization through creative arts therapy group and individual sessions, focusing on the skills needed to function in the community.

Job Responsibilities:- Assists in the preparation of unit schedule of patient therapeutic programming and adheres to same, providing updates as needed.- Coordinate and monitor the respective group schedules for compliance with regulatory requirements.- Provides a therapeutic group program for patients that is approved by the immediate supervisor and in according with interdisciplinary treatment goals which includes but is not limited to the interventions and practices of creative art therapy.- Participates as an active member of the interdisciplinary treatment team by attending meetings and contributing to the formulation of individual patient comprehensive treatment plans.- Assesses functioning of patients, prepare preliminary treatment plans for patients, participates in comprehensive treatment team planning, writes progress notes in medical record according to rules and guidelines of Activity Therapies Department of Psychiatry.- Communicates clinical and other work-related information to unit team and immediate supervisor, as necessary and appropriate.- Provides consultation for complex cases in the evaluation of social, cognitive, psychological and physical functioning through the creative arts therapy program.- Monitors, documents, and evaluates the attainment of creative arts therapy goals as part of the therapeutic process.- Coordinate student and volunteer programs by functioning as a liaison to various universities.- Coordinates and supervises the activities of auxiliary staff in related therapeutic disciplines.- Performs all other tasks as assigned by Supervisor or designee.

Minimum Qualifications

Assignment Level I1. A valid License or Limited Permit issued by the New York State Education Department to practice as a Creative Arts Therapist. Employees working with a Limited Permit must obtainLicensure within two years from their date of appointment.Assignment Level II1. A valid License issued by the New York State Education Department to practice as a Creative Arts Therapist; and2. Two years of full-time, paid, professional experience in creative arts therapy.Assignment Level IIIIn addition to meeting the requirements for Assignment Levels II, Assignment Level IIIrequires:1. One additional year of experience.
