MissionSince 1985, Playwrights Project has been empowering people of all ages and backgrounds to voice stories through theatre, inspiring individual growth and meaningful community connections. Programs include playwriting programs in schools and disenfranchised communities (primarily system involved youth and adults), a statewide playwriting contest for youth, community performances, and professional productions:

Plays by Young Writers

(winning scripts from the contest) and

Mosaic

(plays by adults in our community programs).PositionThe Development/Communications Associate, full-time (30-40 hrs/wk), orchestrate fundraising, public relations, and marketing efforts to increase awareness and support of Playwrights Project. This position works closely with staff and committees, under the guidance of the Managing Director.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Maintain calendar of development activities and support implementationResearch donors and funding opportunitiesPrepare grant proposals and funding requests with the Executive DirectorTrack activities and demographics for compliance with donor requirementsPrepare reports and thank you lettersParticipate as the staff liaison on Development and Special Events CommitteesCoordinate fundraising events with staff and committee membersWork with Program Managers to support compliance with protocols and funding requestsObserve programs periodically to experience programs for reporting and communicationsMarketingFacilitate messaging, media, PR and social media, supported by Administrative AssistantPrepare and distribute press releases, newsletters, update online messagingSupport the development of marketing materialsAssist in representing organization to the public, donors, press and partnersIndividual DonorsCoordinate efforts to deepen involvement of current donors, encourage program participants to contribute to PWP, attract new donors, and generate lead giftsAssist in cultivating and maintaining relationships between donors, board and patronsOrganize and keep current documentation on donors and prospectsFinancesMaintain records of gifts in DonorPerfect, cross checking accuracy with finance staffMonitor costs related to development (e.g. fundraising, marketing, and special events)JOB REQUIREMENTS:SKILLSDemonstrated strong written and verbal communication skillsPassion for theatre and arts educationProficient/Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google products is requiredAction oriented; creative visioning and problem-solving skillsExcellent time management, organizational, and planning skillsStrong commitment to meet and exceeding expectationsAbility to work independently and collaborate effectively with othersCultural competency and ability to work with diverse populationsIntegrity to handle sensitive information in a confidential mannerProfessional image and demeanorEDUCATIONPost-secondary education in a related field or commensurate experienceLANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read, write and speak English fluentlyAbility to read, write and speak Spanish fluently (not required, but preferred)PHYSICAL DEMANDSAble to sit for prolonged periods of time at meetings, desk, computerAble to view a computer screen for an extended period of timeAble to speak into and use a telephoneAble to lift and transport up to 25 poundsWORK ENVIRONMENTFast-paced work with multi-level distractionsRequires a balance of independent work and collaborationSPECIAL CONDITIONSAbility to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as neededMust be able to satisfy requirements for security clearances at correctional institutionsMust have a valid California driver’s license and auto insuranceSALARYHealth care stipend available after 3 months of employmentSubmit your resume and a cover letter (2-page maximum) to:
