The Role

The Communications Relations Manager is our connector to each of our audiences: residents, co-workers, prospects, job-seekers, media, outside community members and industry associations. This individual curates content mined for a specific audience and then communicates it in a way that best relates to that audience. Ever vigilant for a storyline, the Communications Relations Manager collaborates with our co-workers, our communities, the media and industry leaders to identify topics and context to position us as a resource and in turn earn the trust and consideration of our brands. Given the varied preferences in consuming information, this individual specializes in a wide range of communication channels and skills: video filming, editing and production; media relations; crisis communications; writing for presentations, corporate communication, co-worker communication, mass communication, digital channels, social media and search-optimized website content; review responses; and does so with urgency and finesse.

This role is responsible for tailored multimedia content and customer communications built to ultimately help increase our brands’ value among multiple target audiences as well as enrich engagement and qualified leads for employment and residency.

The Sandbox

The Communications Relations Manager works in the Communications department as the go-to for several departments to develop communications including Sales, Resource Team, HR and Management. This individual is expected to be the expert in the best approach, message and channel in relating to our audiences and thrives in learning what’s next.

Work Location

Option to work remotely one day a week for those living within an hour driving distance to Hershey, Pa. corporate office. For those living outside a one-hour driving distance, required to travel one week a month to corporate office, plus frequent site visits to Pennsylvania and Maryland campuses—you go where the story is.

Responsibilities

Content Curation & Creation

Serves as organization’s storyteller by using creative writing and video production to share key messages in engaging formats, piquing prospective customer attention and engaging individuals with our brand stories

Collaborates with various Home Office and campus teams to identify opportunities to promote initiatives, program successes, individual co-worker successes, resident achievements and other topics of interest

Distills complex information to make it understandable, interesting and relatable to people in and outside the senior living industry

Manages all published content: video projects; story bank, news and co-worker spotlight on websites; press releases; e-newsletters; newsletters; podcasts; internal and public publications; and other related non-paid content

Media & Public Relations

Responds to media inquiries and maintains relationships with key media contacts

Serves as company spokesperson (as appropriate)

Coaches staff members selected to speak with media by providing talking points and tips to properly answer questions and avoid sharing too much information

Works to secure positive media placement with key consumer and trade media outlets

Manages crisis communication and oversees readiness in planning

Observes competitive activity and shares updates with team with commentary/point of view where and when appropriate

Monitors press mentions and socializes related news to appropriate team members for their knowledge

Assists in entry submissions and promoting special awards or recognition

Customer & Co-worker Communication

Supports the Human Resources and Talent Development departments in developing and communicating co-worker-related information and features

Works with Home Office and campus management in communicating updates, announcements and emergency information to residents, their families and co-workers

Develops seasonal messaging for Executive and Resource Management teams for customers and co-workers

Reputation Management

Establishes and manages review monitoring system and response protocol

Monitors reviews, develops and posts responses through our reputation management and social media monitoring programs

Assists with responses to complaints and negative press

Maintains online directory and profiles

Critical Success Factors:

A true love of storytelling … with experience in developing and producing them

Ability to pivot while maintaining focus and energy

Excellent grammar, writing and communication skills, including the ability to adapt writing style to appeal to different audiences

(Will be expected to show recent writing samples.)

Highly skilled and experienced in creating, editing and producing video content

(Will be expected to share recent video projects.)

Keen appreciation for social media assets and trends

Adept at writing SEO-rich content

An educated perspective on AI’s role and effect on content creation and/or marketing-communication

Proactive and creative thinker—always focusing on innovative and measurable solutions

Collaborative partner who demonstrates empathy and actively works with others to solve problems

Strong organizational skills and ability to self-direct and manage multiple projects on time and on brand

Comfortable working with variable workflows in a fast-paced environment and nimble in making the necessary adjustments per customer behavior and business and communications goals

Genuinely enjoys engaging with older adults and collaborating with teams

With the responsibility of crisis communication, must be able to perform under emergency situation during non-traditional working hours (M-F 9-5)

Minimum of 5 years of related professional (post-collegiate) paid experience in content creation for an organization. Agency, news organization or corporate Marcom experience is preferred.

Preference will be given to individuals with previous communications experience in recruitment advertising and business-to-consumer marketing

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or related field

Reports to the Vice President of Communications and Advertising
