Job DescriptionThe National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s (NREL) Communications Office has an opening for an adaptable, energetic, and collaborative communications professional to support communications for transportation work within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The successful candidate will help tell DOE’s story through a variety of communication channels, as well as manage multiple moderately complex communications projects.

Duties will include:

Serving as a communications representative, including as the day-to-day point of contact with clients, developing annual communications plans, and managing communications deliverables.

Leading the development, design, editing, and publication of presentations, reports, and other outreach materials that follow established branding and style guidelines.

Writing engaging stories that celebrate and elevate clean transportation deployment successes through news articles, outreach materials, social media, newsletters, and presentation materials.

Developing, editing, and publishing web content, following established web standards and best practices.

Coordinating internal processes to support clients and communication project leads.

Building and maintaining positive relationships with colleagues and clients.

Successful candidates will have:

Strong writing and storytelling skills.

Good project management skills, including leading tasks and developing and managing budgets and schedules.

Demonstrated attention to detail and quality.

Nimbleness needed to multitask in a fast-paced communications agency-like setting.

Strong client service mindset.

Ability to react positively to and navigate rapidly changing circumstances.

General knowledge of web and digital media best practices.

Experience leading projects such as newsletters, websites, social media, webinars, and print materials.

Previous experience working in a project management tool such as Asana, Smartsheet, ClickUp, etc.

Ability to distill technical information into understandable and engaging content.

Can-do attitude and collaborative work style.

Eight or more years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or related field, preferably in an area of science.

Basic QualificationsRelevant Bachelor's Degree and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Master's Degree and 3 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant PhD or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant JD or equivalent relevant education/experience.

Annual Salary RangeJob Profile: Professional III / Annual Salary Range: $73,200 - $120,800
