Job Title:

Instructional Designer, Training Curriculum Dev (Power Generation Instructional Designer)

Location:

Livermore, CA (Hybrid)

Description:

Role will be hybrid with some travel to PowerGen powerhouses. Looking for local candidates to Livermore/Bay Area and within Client's service territory. Available for onsite visits 5% to 10% of time. Must be available for overnight visits to client's mountain locations. 1 or 2 visits per quarter required. Proper PPE will be provided by client before any onsite visits. Expenses will be reimbursed for travel.

Job Description:

Partner with cross-functional teams to conceptualize training design and content.

Define learning objectives, course structure, learning content and assessments.

Complete detailed analysis of each task to be trained/supported for target audience, business process, and systems.

Follow company standards, guidelines, and templates to develop learning materials including student and facilitator presentations and guides, activities, scenarios, and assessments. Create instructional graphics, scenarios, or interactions. Write clear and effective instruction and facilitator text appropriate for the target audience.

Conduct meetings with subject matter experts including task analysis, alpha, beta, and answer validation meetings.

Engage with subject matter experts for ongoing content review and validation. Receive and incorporate feedback.

Self-manage assigned tasks and deadlines to complete deliverables. Proactively communicate issues and risks.

Skills:

3+ years’ experience developing instructor-led, hands-on technical skills training.

2+ years’ experience developing web-based training.

Experience developing training for the utility industry.

Experience with technical writing.

Strong knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design methodologies.

Very strong task analysis knowledge and capability.

Strong knowledge of PowerPoint, Word, and Articulate Storyline.

Flexibility to work on simultaneous development efforts, as needed.

Knowledge of QuestionMark and Author-it.

Comfortable and capable working on a high-performing team.

Safety knowledge strongly desired.

Lock out tag out knowledge strongly desired.

Must be willing to work Pacific Time Zone business hours.

Available for onsite visits 5% to 10% of time. Must be available for overnight visits to PG&E mountain locations. 1 or 2 visits per quarter required.

Other requirement:

Bachelor's degree ideal but not required.

Job Description:

Lead and oversee the design and production of training programs for utility workers, collaborating with Instructional Designers, Subject Matter Experts, and other Academy team members.

Conduct needs analysis with internal clients to recommend cost-effective learning and performance support solutions that meet business requirements.

Work across the organization to determine training design, content and delivery methodology.

Define the curriculum audience, learning objectives, instructional strategies, and course outlines.

Provide coaching and support to instructional designers. Review the work of instructional designers to ensure quality of course materials.

Provide support to project manager, including, but not limited to, managing timelines, estimating resources, and providing project updates.

Ensure accurate reporting of status and forecasts of multiple projects.

Manage multiple projects, deadlines, and the work of other instructional designers.

Support instructional designers to create assessments following Academy guidelines.

Partner with delivery teams to ensure successful transition of curriculum from development to the classroom.

Evaluate learning effectiveness and implement changes as needed.

Required Skills:

5+ years’ experience developing instructor-led, eLearning, or virtual training.

2+ years’ experience as a Senior Instructional Designer.

Proven experience coaching other instructional designers to create quality training in a fast-paced environment.

Experience working on large to mid-size projects and/or training programs across multiple organizations.

Experience developing style guides for technical writing.

Experience developing hands-on technical skills training.

Experience developing knowledge and skill assessments.

Ability to evaluate new learning technologies for use in training programs.

Strong communication skills across roles.

Knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design methodologies.

Very strong task analysis knowledge and capability.

Knowledge of PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Articulate Storyline.
