Job Summary

You love finding stories that matter and make a difference in a local community. You love mentoring young journalists. You’re ready to make bold choices about news content at a 24/7 news shop. Then this is the job is for you. This newly created role will work closely with the news director and assistant news director on day-to-day coverage needs and advance planning of the newscasts. You will be managing a team of assignment editors as well as reporters.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily operations of the assignment desk.
  • Provide leadership that encourages excellence.
  • Recruit and hire assignment editors.
  • Supervise short-term and long-term news coverage planning.
  • Supervise development and execution of series and specials.
  • Manage the schedules of reporters and photographers to meet coverage needs.
  • Supervise the scheduling of facilities and the distribution of news gathering equipment.
  • Work with reporters to achieve editorial goals.
  • Conduct employee reviews that are timely and effective.
  • Coordinate stringers assignments.
  • Participate/contribute content across all platforms including social media.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred
  • Six years’ experience in television news gathering.
  • Four years supervisory experience preferred.
  • Excellent management skills
  • Ability to perform many tasks simultaneously under pressure.
  • Exceptional news judgment
  • News writing and copy-editing ability for all platforms including social media.
  • Ability to work morning hours a must.
  • Humor: we like to have a good time while we work hard

This position is identified as being performed in/or reporting to company operations in New York State. Salary ranges are supplied in compliance with New York State law. Pay is competitive and based on a number of job-related factors, including skills and experience. The starting pay rate/range at time of hire for this position in the posted location is $102,816.00 - $168,912.00  / year. The rate/range provided herein is the anticipated pay at the time of hire, and does not reflect future job opportunity.
