W. W. Norton is seeking a Contracts Associate for its Contracts Department. This employee will work closely with the Contracts Director, Contracts Manager, Contracts Associate, Contracts Assistants and other departments.

Essential Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Draft, negotiate and track book agreements and related documents for various divisions
  • Manage and track on-going negotiations with authors and their representatives
  • Review and negotiate subsidiary rights agreements
  • Review permission licenses and logs for trade authors
  • Manage signature process in Docusign
  • Collaborate in-house with editors, legal counsel, and royalties staff
  • Attend weekly editorial meetings to keep abreast of upcoming deals
  • Review contract files and research queries, as needed
  • Provide general department support and handle special projects as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Employment eligibility to work with W. W. Norton & Company in the U.S.
  • Strong writing skills required
  • 2-3 years of book publishing experience in contracts preferred
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to effectively prioritize
  • Ability to work independently
  • Close attention to detail and excellent organization and prioritization skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work full business hours from Norton’s New York City headquarters

Technical Skills

  • Must possess very strong computer skills particularly in MS Office

Compensation and Benefits*

Currently available benefits include:

  • Annual compensation for this position is $55,000-65,000. All salaries and salary ranges posted by Norton may vary depending on experience, skills, location, and like considerations.
