DescriptionSummary of Position:

Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB) is seeking a visionary communicator to be the voice of BGCB, capturing the urgency and passion behind its mission. The Senior Director of Brand Communications will oversee strategy, content, and creative development of a full portfolio of strategic communications, crafting and delivering consistent, compelling, and impactful messaging across all platforms. This role involves collaborating with the senior leadership team to develop and execute a comprehensive brand communications strategy for both internal and external audiences.

We are looking for a masterful writer with a strong PR background, adept at creating powerful and engaging content such as talking points, development communications, thought leadership pieces, and other materials that inspire action. This individual will be key in amplifying strategic messages, highlighting the needs of Boston and Chelsea youth, and narrating stories of resilience and transformation.

Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), the Senior Director will join the Marketing and Communications department, composed of 6 talented and passionate professionals who handle all aspects of integrated marketing and communications including content planning and development, website and social media management, community relations, media relations, events, and alumni engagement. Although the Senior Director will not have any direct reports, they will be assigned the leadership of the team in the absence and/or unavailability of the CMO.

What You Will Do:

Strategic Communication: Implement integrated communications initiatives that build brand equity and drive audience engagement and growth.

Content Creation: Produce engaging content for a wide variety of communications channels and platforms that amplifies and strengthens strategic brand messages. Conceptualize, develop, and execute compelling and innovative content.

Serve as the creative leader, project manager, editor, and principal writer for a wide variety of print and digital projects, including annual reports, marketing collateral, newsletters, talking points, presentations, op-eds, stewardship pieces, and more.

Public Relations: Oversee the organization’s external PR agency/consultants, developing stories and strategies to position BGCB as the leading youth development organization in the region. Represent BGCB to the press, pitch stories, columns, and editorial content, and act as spokesperson and crisis contact.

Crisis Communications: Lead and manage issues/reputational/crisis communications strategy and execution.

Media Relations: Develop and execute a media relations strategy to elevate BGCB’s reputation, build relationships with targeted media, and respond proactively to media requests.

Event Communication: Create powerful event program content, including selecting speakers, drafting remarks, and participating in speaker preparation. Work closely with the Development team on event programs to incorporate key messaging.

Executive Communication: Collaborate with the CEO and Board Chair to capture their voice and vision, prepare media quotes, video scripts, and briefing materials for events.

Internal Collaboration: Develop strong relationships with BGCB leadership and staff to identify and tell BGCB’s most compelling stories.

Web Content Oversight: Ensure alignment of web content with overall organizational branding and messaging.

Participate in youth-related trainings including, but not limited to - mandatory reporting, boundaries, behavioral management.

What You Will Need:

Experience, Skills & Education:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism, or related subject.

Experience:

Eight+ years of full-time professional experience in writing, content creation, public relations, or similar roles.

Skills:

Exceptional writing and editing skills, with fastidious attention to detail. Strong project management, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with proven experience shepherding ideas from inception to completion.

Interpersonal Skills:

Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work with BGCB constituencies including Board members, leadership, Club staff, families, and youth. Proven ability to accept and incorporate feedback while maintaining the integrity of creative ideas and concepts.

Teamwork:

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Availability:

Ability to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
